Don't you wish this subject was as clear as.. black or white? ;) I'm sure my sarcasm will probably trip me up.. one day!
Anyway, racism is probably best not discussed here, but seeing as you started it..
I believe each and every one of us is racist/ageist/sexist/genderist/somethingist in one way or another.. I know I am..
I'm unsure if my "istisms" are due to ignorance or personal experience, but I don't want to simply be "Politically Correct" and say how terrible it all is..
If I choose to have friends from different races.. does that mean I must like each and every one of that race? If I choose to have homosexual friends.. does that mean I must be interested in what they do in bed? If I employ older people, does that mean I must not employ someone younger? I think not!
The fact is that there is injustice and imbalance in the world, there always has been and always will be. It's the circle of life - what goes up, must come down. Each section takes its turn on the merry-go-round and eventually.. every dog has it's day!
:) :)

Can we have some picies of the pups please george:p
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Great news about the pups George! Have you found possible homes for them? Seven? yikes.
A pic would be nice - then we can all vote for them and they can be on the cover of Italy mag!
But no choosing the fawn ones over the black ones ok(or vice versa of course)

In a day or so, when they're more or less sorted out, I will post a picture.
I agree, everyone has a degree of prejudice, but, they should keep it to themselves, the phrasing of statements should be done carefully, for instance, when people refer to disliking people because of their race, they exhibit direct racism. The more that people pussy foot around without challenging the views of racists the more difficult it will be to stop them feeling they can express their repugnant views.
To take Aliena's point, you can indeed be friends with anyone you choose, and you may for instance dislike a person, errm, Freddy, who happens to be black, you may dislike him because he's a pratt, BUT, when you dislike him BECAUSE he's black, the can of worms is opened.
If the moderators of this forum wish to challenge me over challenging someone expressing racist views on the forum, they should ask themselves why they are allowing such views to be expressed in the first place...

Sorry for homing in on one point in your post - but am not following you here? If someone has said something that you are unhappy with please report the post - in my case a pm would really help as I do not check my emails much in the week. We will deal with problem posts(and posters) when we are aware of them.
We all have jobs and do not really have the time to read each and every post in every single thread (though we do try) and can and do miss things, so your help is much appreciated in highlighting troublesome posts(ers).

I want to know.. who is Freddy, is he a prat, what he's doing with a can of worms.. and what he said! ;)
:) :)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
well if Freddy keeps his worms in a can, then he must be a prat. the garden is the place for worms, where they will aerate the soil and provide nutrition of birds. Unless its thread worms that he's got, in which case you might mean something different by "can"

[QUOTE=GeorgeS]I have noticed that a forum member I tried to explain racism to has leaped out of the closet again, really sad, all people are not equal in this world... Mainly because some individuals whether through fear or ignorance cannot grant that everyone has something unique about them, whatever their race, gender or sexual orientation. There will always be people we do not like in life for one reason or another, but, racism is an unacceptable thing.

yes george your approach is to just use the word, without accepting that it
is not just black and white, nor can you split it from religion,or make someone
a so called stereotype.
there is tension at home everyday in the uk,but being pc they try to keep it
out if the papers. "birmingham last month"what i don't like is when people get on the pc horses and decide its ok to slate "whites"hey whos going to
call you a racist for that. then gloss over the tension or race issues that
happen between blacks, indians and pakistanis, like they cannot be racist,
against whites,or as is the case each other.
but then the 3 pakistanis sent down this week for killing a white men got off
lightly as it was not a racist attack, why? because they also abused a black
man and caused trouble in a indian resturant, judge thinks like you and
whilst i don't think it should make any difference as to it being or not
being a racist attack, the judge and you seem to think in black and white, and
you seem to think anyone who would dare mention, these type of things,
are racist.why? you come across as an intellegent man. yes i have a big
mouth and i like to speak my mind, but that doesnot make me a bigot or racist
they "apparently" don't like people to know so keep quiet.
and george i think you have gone too far this time "leaped out the closet"
i still remember my original statement, maybe the people of your village would
like to hear it.... and YOUR reply, which i still remember!
i will be popping in ,in july unless "which i doubt" your 2 slanderous and libel
statements against me......are recanted...

There's a rumour circulating that they were canned in Puglia, then illegaly shipped to the UK, some say it's for the worm relief fund authorised last year by the EU ;) ;)

I think we are onto something here..
Glow worms slow roasted in a creamy Chestnut sauce.. canned in Puglia by impoverished Albanians.. distributed nationwide by Clarke.. on sale from the back of a lorry in Naples on Tuesday afternoons.. for a limited period only..
Oh Dio! Aiutami.. aiutami, per favore.. this forum is sending me nutty. ;)

are you a moderator.? if so you seem to lack real experience, you see on two occassions you have let a member repeat his slanderous and libel remarks, yet
you side with him? there fore i assume you agree with him and by doing so
leave this site on thin ice.
do you not know the protecols that are in place for just these type of offences? if not you should really find out and quickly.
i have niether slandered or been libel, i have only promised to visit someones
village and see in a round about way how regulars of the bars, will react to
george s, description of an italian who may held a similar believe to me.
there is nothing wrong with that, but the is something wrong, if you are
a moderator and allow his ,what is now a repeat of his original slanderous
post.
but then i shouldn't really worry about it, as i almost certainly had a previledged start to my schooling life, as i was the only foreigner in the comunity of 6000, so was treated special in those early days, yes the young
lads knew i needed toughening up so the usually helped me and to make it
fair usually did it in twos and threes. they also taught me some speical
words just for me... whop, eye tie and because my father got jealous of
my spiecal treatment he made me move schools. but it backfired as the
headmaster remembered the war with a vegence and so i did get alittle extra
attention......but unfortunately this all stopped when i went to secondary
school...because of a far better mix i become normal.
so my appoliges to both george s and becky, because THEY no doubt know
more about, racism, bigotry than i will ever know, being as they grew up

sorry not this time. if you noted i did the last time, but when a dimwitt restarts an old attack on me, then the old fool deserve a reply,
he should really stick to talking about dogs....
i found this site when aol stopped there aol italy, did anybody use that site?
it was a lot like this but there was more culture history... hell loads of sub topics, were arguements were about more important things than where to live.
the users were from all over the world, and very well informed, it was a
pleasure to read there posts.
here well again we have some very well informed people...but we also have
a few who seem to carry a far greater respect than there knowledge would
deem worthy. who really have a very little understanding of the culture of
italy and there people, but seem to think there way of thinking is how
italians think.... how can that be so..they have been dragged up in an
english culture,so how can they think that a few holidays or a few years
living there will bring them up to date.....rubbish...yet they still seem to think
they know what is "typical italian" is there such a thing ...NO..

Giovanni.. you make me despair sometimes.. and there I was.. almost falling in lurve with you.. and severely tempted to correct your grammar.. ;)
Era una brutta cosa quello che hai fatto stasera e non mi piace questo modo. Ti devi vergognare. Di certo.. mi vergogno di te stasera.. because.. you are behaving in a way that stereotypes Italian males! All hot air, bravado and no balls!
Di certo.. lo so.. you will never do what you threaten.. for the simple reason that by the time it's time to do it.. you will have forgotten all about it.. but surely you can see that any threat is not a pleasant thing.. especially if not carried out.. it can make you look stupid to the stereotypical English person!
I'm sure you are clever enough to realise that the stereotypical English person simply does not understand the stereotypical Italian person. Now, caro.. mi raccomando.. per favore.. say sorry for losing your cool and sit nicely for a while.. give the people a chance to recover from your hot headed outburst or they will all be thinking you are Clarke in disguise..
If you promise to be a good boy.. I promise I will buy you a new train set for Christmas and make spaghetti alla vongole as soon as I'm not barefoot and pregnant and I get a chance to go to the fish market. Baci baci..

I am the first to admit that I am not very experienced as a moderator, and rely on members actually pointing out problems to me, as I do not have the time to read each and every posting on this site. The simple truth is, with two exceptions, every single complaint I have received has involved postings made by you.
I am sure that you have a valuable contribution to make to this forum, but that does not excuse the kind of posting such as that made above. If you have a problem with someone here, do as the other members do, report it to myself or Ronald, and give us a chance to deal with it.

Racism is a very emotive topic, and everyone has an opinion! It is always a dangerous thing to bring into a discussion as people can be quite sensitive about differences of opinion on the subject.
So, special request - please tread with caution around this subject, and please everyone who participates, try to stay civil.
Congrats on the pups!
