2128 Does the Italian government pay for olive trees on your land?

My family and i have a large plot of land within calabria in Mongrassano scalo, about 25 Minutes from Cosenza.
It was land that my father had and left to us, there are some vines, fig trees and a few olive trees, however i was told that the government will issue money to family with olive trees on there land. Does any one know if this is true, and if so when would the best time to plant the trees be ie autum summer/spring.

I think there is some kind of EU grant but it's so small that it's not worth bothering with.

What do you think is worth growing, I e is there any grants for orange trees or vines and what woul dyou suggest to use the land for we have around 5 acres. It has vines but they need tidying and also in the summer we plant tomatoes and peppers for when we visit.

ciao matt we have a number of olive trees in puglia and we have been told that to apply for the grants you have to be a resident, the former owner has had to dereigister the trees we now own as he was getting the money for them and at the moment we cannot be there full time, unfortunately he was not forthcoming with the amounts he was getting for the trees. ciao marco:confused:

It may be worth looking into Walnut trees, I heard that there may be grants available, I have no facts only hearsay, maybe someone on the forum will be able to enlighten us.
Obviously it will be for the long term.

We have heard that the grant is 10euro per tree per annum We have 200 trees and have no idea how to get the grant even after we are resident however 2000 euro would certainly pay for their upkeep ie fuel and wear and tear on equipment for tilling the soil around trees, pruning etc.

After residency what do you do and where do you go?

I think you have to be a registered farmer too. Anyway a good starting point where you can get these kind of information the Chamber of Commerce of you province. They have a web site too, its usually "yourprovincesigle".camcom.it ie for Milan is [url]www.mi.camcom.it[/url]
