2157 Foreigners in Italy - The Truth!

I have had to do some work on some Italian census data recently so I thought I would share some of the results online at http://www.lifeinitaly.co.uk/Foreigners-in-Italy/index.htm

It makes fascinating reading, for instance, you may think that Tuscany is overflowing with Brits, Americans and Germans, but the reality is quite different. There are in fact just under 3,000 Brits registered as living in Tuscany compared to over 42,000 Albanians, 20,000 Romanians and 20,000 Chinese! In addition there is one woman and one man from Mongolia registered living in Tuscany - I wonder if they've met.
Across the whole of Italy there are more Brazilians than Brits, and more from the Dominican Republic than the USA!

If you want to avoid Brits then Basilicata is the place to be with just 22 registered British residents.

The data also includes figures for men and women. For example, there are 7 times more Ukrainian women than men living in Italy, but there are 6 times more Senegalese men than women.

Anyway, it's there is you are interested. Any suggestions on how the data could be better presented, or any additional info that you think would be useful/interesting if added the please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Just out of interest how many Albanians in Puglia compared to the rest of Italy as a percentage  (Oh I can see this thread being deleted)
Just had a look at the site and Puglia is 14th out of 20. ;)

0.545% of the population of Italy is Albanians, but only 0.476% of the population of Puglia is Albanian - however, not all Albanians (nor Brits, or Germans etc) are legally registered as residents in Italy, and many Albanians have gained Italian citizenship and so cease to be recorded as Albanian.

Wow! This makes very intriguing reading! ;)

Yup, there are now loads of 'Eastern Block' nationals. Are there any Albanians left in Albania?? :D

I also would've thought that the numbers of resident Germans & Brits was higher ... it's a great site of information when you want to do some research into certain areas. This, together with the news today (see front page of website) of the best & worst places to live...

Cheers,
Stephanie

there also seemsto be more english women than men!! anthing to do with the italian stallion??:D

Albanians, like any other immigrant, go where the jobs are, so above all in the northern area of Italy.
Many immigrants are not recorderd as foreigners at all:
i.e. here in Macerata it's full of argentinians, but only 361 are registered, because most of them have already italian citizenship, so they're considered italians coming back from abroad.

It's intriguing to read the data about Le Marche.
Porto Recanati it's a sort of melting pot, with the one of the highest foreigners rate of the region (about 12% of the popuation), from Albania to Bangla Desh and only one from Uk (but I personally know at least 3 uk citizens living here, so may be they are not registerd).
It's also intriguing to discover that Macerata has the highest number of english residents in the region:
286, compared to 211 in Ascoli, 183 in Ancona and 124 in Pesaro.
There are 3 englishmen/women in Macerata for each french: are they all opening agriturismi ?

Interestingly nos. of women exceed those of men in almost every category. Italy wouldn't seem to be the ideal location for a single woman in search of a male partner

They are not all stalions some are just ponies!!
