2153 Rubbish!

We have a lot of "stuff" we need to get rid of such as wire netting, old bath(s), old sink, plastic tubs, old zinc guttering, fridge, cooker (gas), old paint tins, old roof tiles, bits of this and that we have discovered in and around the house. We also have a fair bit of old and unwanted furniture which we guess can be burnt

We understand that skip hire doesn't operate in Italy - well Marche anyway.
Any experience of how private individuals can get rid of stuff like this? I don't really fancy putting into the communal bins bit-by-bit - it'll take till next decade!!

Thanks

It does seem as if a lot of rubbish is often left in properties, we now know why. If we bought again we would specify removal of old furniture and rubbish in the contract. It is difficult and expensiive to have it removed. Most comunes offer a service to remove large items and metal. Our one removes it once a month. You have to transport it to a central location where it is then skipped and removed. I believe it is also possible to take it some distance to a central location but there is also a charge. I suggest your first stop is to enquire in the comune. Second idea, there are often people who specialise in this kind of removal but they would charge a few hundred euros probably. Good Luck.

I would agree, try the local comune first. Often there are comune run tips, but they tend to be tucked away and not well publicised, the one near us is run extremely efficiently and there is no charge, you do however have to cart everything there yourself. For things such as old tiles & bricks they go to a 'rock crushing' place where you dump them off, they are then pounded and used for various purposes. Again it is free but you have to take the stuff there yourself. Depending on the type of car you have, this may be a real pain, ask locally and see if you can find a man with a truck who can help you out.
Good luck

Thanks for that. We'll have to do some snooping around to see if/where our commune has a tip.

I have seen people advertising in the want-ad magazines such as "Secondamano" or "La Pulce" that they will clean out cantinas and attics for free. I have never tried this but wonder if anyone else has. It seems like it might be a way to at least have furniture, household items, old magazines and papers and books hauled off.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
