2242 Only one Italian wonder of the world?

I read in the papers today that people around the world are being invited to vote in a survey for the New Seven Wonders of the World.

A new organisation, the New 7 Wonders Foundation has put forward a shortlist of 21 landmarks from across the globe. It includes Rome's Colosseum but what does everyone think, what other Italian wonders were missed?

For reference, the full list is:

This list is of the "man made wonders". I'd love to hear the "natural wonders" of Italy list. I think the Grand Canyon in the US is much more a wonder than the Statue of Liberty.

The Amalfi Coast, Capri, Vesuvio- and I'm near Rome but the scenery all over Italy has to be included - my local favourite - Lago di Nemo :so dark so secretive so Caligula

couldn't agree with you more about the Grand Canyon - my thoughts are the same for Australia - I think the "Stromolites" in Shark Bay (north of Perth)definately rate much higher than the opera house! But thats just my opinion.
Maybe we should start our own Natural Wonders of Italy list.

Why nobody says Venice?

I believe that if we haven't other wonders here there is the weirdest thing: "La salita che scende", the climb that goes down, near Rome. Is a climb but if you put a ball or a trolley over it they go up! With your bicycle, you can arise it without to pedal, very funny.

That because there is an optical illusion (one time I saw the explanation in tv) that makes you see a descent being an ascent.

I agree! We shall never forget, what kind of wonders there are in our environment. They have been here before us, and there's no doubt that they shall exist here also after us...

Welcome Silberstein! this is out of the headline but had to put it here when seeing someone else from Finland, at least no one has let us know being from here.

Bower, sorry but my English is poor, did you ask me where I live?

sorry varfleet - probably my Italian
not many people know about la salita che scende - thought you might be near us in Genzano - didn't want your address or anything
Here goes in an attempt in italian
non ci sono molte gente chi conoscono la salita che scende
ho pensato che sarebbe possibile che sei dalla comune di Genzano, come noi
Non volevo il tuo indirizzo:o
ps it this the sort of stuff that should be pm'd???

Bower, don't worry, I wasn't afraid you were asking for my address, i just didn understand :-). I am from Rome but la salita che scende is in Ariccia, that is near Rome, that is also near Genzano.
