2241 Cooking classes - Marzipan

One of my new year resolutions for 2006 is to spend some time in Italy mastering the art of making marzipan.
I already know the basics, indeed I already regularly make marzipan at home, but it's the basic stuff, the grey mass.
What I want to do is to turn into the same colorful shapes you can find all over Europe.

So I want to find a place in Italy - Sicily if possible - where I can spend a couple of weeks later this year mastering the details of marzipan making. My intention is to return to Taiwan, where I live now, and introduce marzipan to the island as a small business.
Anyone know of cooking schools where I could learn this?

I've been thinking about your post for several days, and waiting for someone with an answer for you. Just letting you know that sometimes no answers come not because there is no interest in your question, but that there isn't anyone who knows the answer.

If I was in your situation I'd look on the web for a site that sells marzipan in Sicily. Then, I'd email them with your request for learning about it, and what you'd like to do with it in Taiwan. Maybe someone will be interested in teaching you.

Too good to be true, going back for another look and a proper read it says that they arn't marzipan they are in fact Prosculpt polymer clay and mohair. Still got the Aaaahhhhhh factor for me......

I saw a lot, and I mean a LOT of marzipan fruits and decorations at pasticcerias in Rome. I know Sicily is the traditional home of nearly all things sweet in Italy, but you might consider approaching a cookery school, or even a pasticceria in Rome to see if they would be willing to show you the basic technique...
