Hi George,
I love your puppies - they are so sweet. I was almost ready to send one of our dogs to anyone the other night. She thinks she is half cat and it had been raining, so it was wet and muddy, she came into the garage, which is what they do, then scratch at the garage door to get let in, okay well the little beast who is 45 lbs, jumps on the hood of my car and apparently was going to lay on it, like cats do. I have a brand new Mercedes, which is black. Oh my gosh I was mad!!!!! She did not scratch the car, thank goodness, and she is still with us, but it was close  But George, you could have had another dog shipped on over to you from the United States this last Saturday! I love her, so I'm going to keep her around, maybe dog obedience (sp) school would be a good idea. I'm so glad you dropped in George.
Peggy;)

Look at the size of those puppies!!! George, they were so tiny, just weeks ago!
Trin must have super milk! Very nice to hear from you and see the photos of your big pups, thanks!
Maybe someone will make a trip and visit you just to get one of these beautiful
little babies!

Is it not true that the royal house of Windsor is in fact German, and just because they had a name change, German blood is still running through their veins. From what I understand the Brits love them dearly. So what gives?
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
....didn't actually have a name change...they didn't really have a name, not a surname at least, as they were too old a family for that...Guelf I think was the nearest that they got to as a "surname" but then....
...we are vering close to another racist debate, methinks...George I, the original Honoverian King (not "German" in the modern sense) was about 300 years ago...so where does that leave us good intentioned people who happen to live in places where we were not born?
...question of committment, I think....like to show us in which way you think the head of the "German" Royal Family is not integrating into her "adopted" country?
or maybe not, eh?

I just cannot understand why you singled out Germans for "abuse" when you are ruled by one and love it. I realize that you wrote your prior post in jest, maybe. But Freud teaches us, that more often than not true feelings hide behind the veil of a joke.
And yes, I wonder who started this 'near racist' debate?

LOL, I have 14 at the minute, aaarrghhh, They're six weeks old tomorrow, and can hop over the sides of their playpen, the sides are now 45 cm. tall, have had to make a mesh roof to keep the beggars in at night, Ohh, specially for Peg, I too have the problem, but with an older, cheaper car... Ohhh, and, whether they're German or not, not sure that "Everyone" in England does in fact "Love" the Royals, I believe that I heard someone even suggest a while ago that they were an expensive, dysfunctional family who live in the biggest council house in Britain, but of course, that was before the dear Lady agreed to pay some Income Tax, Bless 'er, mind you she has successfully kept her exemptions to the Employment protection act, and the sex discrimination legislation.... Ahhhh, Bless.

Poor George went into exile because of some nasty things goings on here.
Some of us tried, by hook or by crook, to get things back on track, using argument, wit or just being silly, but we failed. That's why I have been away for a while.
I am a BAD Catholic...but I don't want to be subject to school-ground jibes about my religion...in the end its a fundamental part of me AND Italy. Those who are not of this tradition must understand what the sensitivities are.
Which brings us back to racism. The evil that dare not speak its name. If I, living as I do I England, said that the black lawyer next door was an "African", despite the fact that his grandparents came here 40 years ago from the west Indies, I'd have my collar felt by the old Bill.
But others feel free to assert that our Queen is "German". The fact that she was born in England, in London, of a mother and father born in England (the late Queen Mother was I think born in England despite being "Scottish"...well how "English" is "English")?
Yes it was a joke, but ruling out Germans from the debate was purely an "English" thing.
Maybe we should all put our heads between our legs and go back to where we came from......
....any idea where that was?

I know nuffin' to do with any of this but..........strange shuddering at lunchtime and dogs went beserk !!!!!!!!!!(BEhave the lot of you !!!!!!!!:D ).put TV on an hour later and there was an earthquake in Greece at precisely that time . Anyone else feel it ??
Now they are debating whether or not a tsunami is imminent (or do I mean tiramsu ?? ).no other details here as yet...anything on how the Greeks are coming thru in the UK ????
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
We put on our local news here and will let you know what we find out.
Here's an article:
Strong earthquake jolts Greece
ATHENS, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- A strong earthquake jolted Greece and most of the eastern Mediterranean on Sunday, officials said, but there were no immediate reports of damages or casualties.
According to the Athens Observatory's Geodynamic Institute, theearthquake, measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale, was recorded at 13:35 local time (1135 GMT).
The epicenter had been located 75 kilometers under the sea north of Hania, Crete, about 200 kilometers southwest of Athens.
In the hour following the powerful quake, four more aftershocks were recorded with magnitudes ranging from 5.0 to 5.5, Athens News Agency reported.
The earthquake lasted for about 10 seconds and was felt across Greece and as far away as southern Italy, Cyprus, Egypt and Jordan.
Government officials told local television that there were no reports of any major damage to buildings or casualties in central and southern Greece.
Officials on Kythira, an island close to the epicenter, told state television that several houses and roads were damaged and some old buildings collapsed but there were no injuries reported.
Greek media reported two people on the island of Crete were injured as they rushed to leave their homes when the earthquake struck.
"We were extremely lucky. This was an underwater quake," GeorgeStavrakakis, director of the Athens Observatory's Geodynamic Institute, told reporters.
"If it had happened on land it would be a mess. We expect some post-seismic activity with aftershocks but the fact that it was deep in the sea saved us," he added.
Experts warned that intense seismic activity would follow, and post-quakes of up to 6.0 magnitude on the Richter scale could be expected.
Oh !!

...........could this be a problem ????? The local italian news did keep talking about possibility of a tsunami  ...hope it is just an over reaction
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
We had a similar thing happen in here a few months ago. There was an earthquake in the deep seas off the coast of Northern California and powers that be were "overly cautious" and gave a tsunami warning, before having the Geologists check it out. The warning was for the whole coast of California to go inland a mile or so. I'm down in Southern California 3 blocks from the ocean and we had neighbors calling
each other and mass panic, for nothing! The Geologists checked it out and it wasn't the kind of earthquake that could cause a tsunami. They were over reacting because of what took place in Indonesia.

the tremor took thirty minutes to arrive in puglia...45 mins sicily... if it puts your mind more at rest...no big sea waves arriving your way.... no damage either in italy but hundreds... of phone calls by worried italians to the civil protection groups.... so you were not alone in wondering... but it was all on the lunch time news here... i guess i should have posted but didnt want to start another puglia argument off the back of something a bit worrying for those that live there
so no impending worries ... after a while of living here you ll get used to the fact of these... although according to the people on italian tv they said that area of greece/crete is one of the most active seismic regions in the world...which i hadnt realised... anyway another expert voice said that until the reading is 7 plus there are no worries on huge wave phenomens... and basically the depth will not help if the quake is strong enough.....
anyway had always presumed you lived above sea level...remember terraced land postings and inland rural area.... so i think you shouldnt really worry at all...
all is well
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sun, 01/08/2006 - 20:36In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Yes , we are above sea-level but met some people recently who are near the coast and was a bit concerned for them as not sure if they had TV yet to keep an eye on things.
The tremor was quite minor here...we had a much worse one back in the Uk where we lived about 10 years ago and when I lived in Florence in the late '60s I managed to sleep through a pretty nasty one.....such is youth !!
And who might that be!

The usual comments are Incredible or How many? But the best of all is when I drive around with one or two leaving them in the car, parked up, whilst I do a bit of shopping and they sit in the front seats, driver and passenger. I usually stand from afar to watch the passersby. Most just stop and gaze in wonderment or disbelieve. My vet once said, it was like a person sat there, well they are my little people, I guess. The fact that I walk them all every morning is enough to stop most cars and asked but why when they have all that land to wander around in do you need to walk them. It's surprsing how they all just want to be next to me or even sat on top of me, no matter how big they are.
Are you keeping all the pups? It's nice if you can keep the family together.
LOL

Iona, for bored, read totally bleedin' exhausted...
Macy, I too get odd looks, Neo generally with me, always sitting in the passenger seat, and no one here formally walks their dogs either, they just kinda tag along. Don't plan on keeping them all, just Dujour, but, am in a bit of a quandary, the people who were asking if I was going to breed from Trin and Neo seem to be in Hibernation at the moment, I am very reluctant to let them go to anyone... the problem being that Lurchers are such intelligent dogs, if they're kept chained up 24 / 7 they will develop mental problems and they need space to run too... advertising locally this week so, will see what transpires.

He doesn't take well to fatherhood at all, he's developed an "off to the pub" attitude every time he see's the pup's coming his way, he shoots off downstairs, opens the door to the cantina and slopes off to a day bed down there.
