2293 Lock Stock Kids and Dogs

Hi thanks to everyone who replied about my post for hiring a van managed to find a wonderful removal firm door to door a 1 curtainsided vehicle holds (20 cubic metres) just for me. 20th of January is the big day (packing like mad).
Moving lock stock kids and dogs.

Had time to reflect now the divorce is over mum lives in Lanzarote no need to stay. I am planning to drive over I have a sat nav system and just saved the whole of Europe on compact flash Has any one used this to drive scared its gunna take me where it wants. I have looked on the AA website and a map and the roads seem to have 2 numbers for some reason can any one help. A WOMAN ALONE with 2 kids 2 Dogs is scary enough but you havent seen my driving 20km may take me a week.

I plan to drive from LEEDS in the morning to Dover it will take me a full day then the ferry is 75 mins when I arrive in calais I think it best I FIND a DOG friendly hotel does any one know of one? Then in the morning I have a fresh start to drive to Italy lucky for me Im in the North 65km from Parma.

european roads have two numbers ...national like the M1 say and european numbers.... which usually start with an E... but in general if you look on signs the more readable ones are the national numbers.... so forget the E ones basically...

dog friendly hotels in france are in general most of them providing your dog looks well behaved... we travelled down with dog etc.... and had no problems... but then we had disguised her...and she was wearing two piece suit and formal hat...just been to the hairdressers and she wasnt allowed to talk..... look helpless lost and feeble...and most will take pity on you...and you will get away with loads of things...

have a good journey down ... 20 km a week is much too fast ...take it slowly

GOOD LUCK! Have a great journey and keep us posted on how things are going for you.

Kym:)

Yahoo you are on your way - good luck. I'm really happy for you. Stay in touch when you get all set up - I know I want to know how it is going, how the kids are doing, how your business that you are starting up is going, keep us posted. Way to stay strong and find fun in a new chapter of your life!!!

Best wishes and good karma - Peggy

Best of luck, Kym!!

You've waited long enough and now it's time to head off... don't forget essentials (especially lots of water and chocs and tissues for dogs), and enjoy the ride!!

Drive carefully but don't over-rely on Sat Nav! On long distance trips, I use small yellow stickies with the route & regional road numbers (not E numbers!) and stick them somewhere around the front. Remove bits with areas you've passed and you'll have reliable Sat Nav the old-fashioned way!! :D

Good luck and don't forget NOT to look back!!!

Take care,
Stephanie
