2297 Where to stay in / near Florence?

Happy New Year to all,
could anyone suggest where to stay in or near florence, we are a 30 something family with a 7 and a 4 year old daughters. My wife and I are both very interested in geting to know Italy, and are looking to travel with the kids in early April, and return (possibly somewhere different) in September on our own.(no kids)
Any information greatly appreciated, where to stay, or indeed where not to stay, Oh I should mention, we would be flying out of Aberdeen airport, although we can go via either gatwick or amsterdam, (advice welcome on this also!)

Try Mona Lisa - Very near to the Duomo - can be abit pricey but great service and comfort.

Can thoroughly recommend Tornabuoni Beacci, though not quite the same now that Senora Beacci (Harold Acton's sister) is no longer there.

Its pricey, but Florence is, I'm afraid.

Try this website. www.accommodationtuscany.biz/florence that way you can look at the areas close to the city as well as the city itself

Hello,

Not a clue about Florence guesthouses but as for flying out from Scotland - we're in Edinburgh and all cheap flight deals seem to elude us!! Ryanair fly Pisa from Prestwick but the prices aren't that cheap - especially if you add several family members. Milan (Bergamo to be precise, not exactly on Milan's doorstep) is a more affordable option but not really close to where you want to go... Flyglobespan ("Scotland's low cost airline" blah blah) flies from Edinburgh to Rome but isn't that cheap either...

For best flight offers, perhaps try the Midlands or the London airports, I guess... we're still looking for our best deal!! ;)

Good luck,
Stephanie

You could, of course, try a cheap flight to Dublin from Edinburgh or Aberdeen (Ryanair). Then you have the choice of Milan, Venice, Bologna, Pisa, Rome or Naples with Ryanair and Aer Lingus.

I thought a company was starting to fly to Pisa from Edinburgh?
