why dont you go broadband and sign up to SKYPE and AKPEout and SKYPEin as well - you and your friends and fanily will save a fortune.
Totally agree with this. A flat subscription to a good ADSL provider, and you'll save a fortune on phone charges. And the quality now is really good!;)

I already have saved a fortune - here is the most extreme example:
From UK to China per minute - I dont have Italian rates but I don't suppose they will be any cheaper
Mobile £1.82 peak / £1.42 off
BT 23p peak / 21p off
SKYPE 2 euro cents (landline or mobile)

Better still!! If the persons you are calling have an internet connection you can have free calling all the time by both installing VOIP software or purchasing a VOIP phone and then resistering with a company such as Free World Dial-up.

It's all lovely and cheap and convenient etc but what if you can't get ADSL where you live????

Thanks all. We are in the same position as Penny in terms of access to ADSL, but c'est la vie .......... ooh that's wrong, perhaps quella e vita!

I haven't tried it but others seem happy (search this site) with cellular broadband, which would mean foregoing any fixed line at all and with the right device you could be making skype calls from the top of a mountain or out in a pedallo...I think.
Does anyone know what a Vodafone Hotspot is - I saw several at Pisa airport last night.

You can get what is called, In the VOIP world, a virtual local access number. What that allows you to do is call a local number in Italy and it will ring at a predetermined number in the UK or vice versa.

I have a london number with SKYPE that Londoners can call at local rate and extra Londoners at their rate to London and it will ring at any computer where I am on line - otherwise the caller can leave voicemail.

the problem with skype is that it rings on your computer. VOIP can ring on VOIP phone or regular phone or computer. You can also have it ring at multiple locations and you are not bound to a single provider as you are with skype.

Now isn't this interesting. What do you do? Scan discussion groups and then try and sell your service? I also sell VOIP equipment and services. Never once did I advertise this. You should post your services in the advertisment section.

The only way anybody can answer your original question is if someone on this forum works for Telecom Italia or British Telecom. You can obtain the rates from your telephone supplier, or wait for your next telephone bill. What we offered were alternatives to the traditional telephone services. Sorry... I can't help you with the rates.
Anyone out there know what the standard Telecom Italia 'phone rates are from Italy:
landline to UK landline
landline to UK Mobile?
