[FONT="Book Antiqua"]I agree that the houses shown by agents will be pricier than if you find one yourself through meeting with vendors up to 50% more in fact.We found that almost everyone in Abruzzo has a house to sell of varying quality and decor!! And prices are a lot less than on the websites But doesn't everyone try to ask as much as they think they can get away with when selling?most Italian think the Brits are loaded and egged on by agents they tend to ask silly prices!
If you see somewhere you like offer 50% less than the price the house is advertised at!!!You never know you may be pleasantly surprised! We have bought a house in a small town between the sea and mountains and plan to spend much of this year on rennovating it so if you want to send me a pm I'll keep in touch and let you know if I hear about anywhere for sale? Our geometra may also know about places.
'Our' town is Manoppello near Chieti and I can recommend the area as there are plenty of places you would like selling from 26,000 euros up.I know that when we stayed out there our host, Lea had several family homes for sale that we looked at as I say send me a pm and I will give more details!
welcome

Hi there, I am also a new member, I am in the process of buying a house in san Vito Abruzzo, it has taken nearly two ears but I am close now. NMy agents are Houses around Italy. The whole house is in need of total renovation which will be a good two year project. I am looking for a good book about restoring Italian property.

Hi all
We are staying in Kerry and Susan's house in the Montebello area whilst loking for something to buy for ourselves.
We have seen the dramatic difference in prices and will take on board the advice to offer 50% less.
We have seen a house we like in Cellino Attanasio, Has anyone got any information on that area?
Our kids are grown up so no need for schools, but we may be looking for work on a self employed basis. Dave doing satellite instalations and computer repairs and me teaching English and Art- Not advertising but it would be handy to know if this is already well covered or there is no demand.
We do like the area we are in at the moment around Penne but have not seen a house that we could cope with. Any advice greatfully recieved.
Ciao

Ciao,
I discovered this forum via google and I decided to register to know more about people who love Italy. I read that somebody is especially interested in Abruzzo my own region and they are looking for accommodations. I live in a little town (1200 inhabitants) close to the sea and mountains more of less 20Km from the airport. The number of its inhabitants is decreasing every year and I do not like it. I dream that people coming from abroad could come and give it a new life. It shouldn't be very difficult because I think there are a lot of buying opportunity especially for rural houses. I have also one of them that unfortunately has to be restored (it was build by my grand grand-father) at the end of last century.
I would like to get in touch with anyone could be interested to come in my town.
saluti a tutti

I lived outside of Pisa until 1983. My husband graduated from the U. of Pisa veterinary school of medicine in 1983. We returned to the USA with our daughter who was born in Pisa and have been living in Vermont for 20 years. We are currently looking to buy a house either in Le Marche or Abruzzo and would eventually like to move back full-time. We love the countryside but my husband is tired of all of the snow so we think we would prefer to live in the hills rather than mountains. We prefer to be in an area where there are not too many foreigners and we both speak Italian. We are lookng for a house with a little land and a view.

[QUOTE=baggio]Just wanted to say that we have dealt with ACA Jonny Allen as well. We are going out to complete at the end of Feb. Jonny has been really helpful with the whole process and he has made the whole thing straightforward.
We are buying near Lanciano, in a little village. the prices seemed very good and not over inflated unlike some agents.
Hope this helps.

Hi Michelle ,
have been following this thread and we have arranged to meet with Jonny on the 10th July. What are your thoughts on our budget of 75,000 euro this will a have to include all fees did you employ a lawyer? although need to keep within the budget the fees will take a big chunk.
I do not know what Jonny has to show us yet any thoughts on the areas around Lanciano?

Hi Trish
Just noticed you will be visiting the lanciano area.
We moved into a small town about 10k north west of Lanciano called Canosa Sannita in feb this year, although we have been very busy we have taken time out to do some exploring.
lanciano itself is a very old city with lots of interesting buildings etc, but its also very well positioned for access to the national parks, sking and easy access to the beaches. There are lots of very nice little towns / villages in the area with some stunning scenery, and theres still snow on the mountains.
We are about 15min from our local beach at Lido Riccio, this weather a quick drive after working on the house or in the garden and we can swim or just paddle - magic, beats the rush hour in Bristol any day
Bye for now, keep us posted on your hunting

Ok 427
we have just completed a house purchase in Abruzzo and I am sure that many of our friends on this forum have had different experiences.
Firstly we chose the area where we wanted to live and then looked for local estate agencies. Because we wanted to buy in a semi rural location the Estate agencies which we contacted tended not to speak English even though their website contained a section promoting to English customers..
I certainly would not recommend this agency as they did nothing for their commission. And in our case the geometra which was associated with the agency was in fact related to the family who were selling. Anyway thanks to the help of Giambrone and Law ( see ad in Italy magazine and on website) they certainly helped us keep the whole thing moving forward with very little fuss.
So if your Italian is good you should have very few problems - if not I think you will be at the mercy of those larger English speaking agencies who tend to market closer to the airports and who do appear to charge suignificanly higher prices.
I am certain that you will find many people here who can recommend based upon their experiences
Anyway good luck with your search
Fixing it up now

Now that I have bought a place, I guess I will be posting more on the renovations side of things.
I am going over to enjoy the winter sports in Jan. I went last Feb, tried Roccorasso, Passo Lanciano and went Kite boarding.
Just got back from a trip over there. Found a nice place, not far from Sambucto (castorama, Obi etc) that has a lake and you can fish for 4.5 euros per hour. The kids caught 8 in 2 hours.
So the next phase begins.
Catch you on a flight over perhaps.
Cheers
