Hi

Can I buy a TV Licence online? From reading websites it appears that I have to make the first payment in a Post Office. Any help please.

Thanks

How did you get on with your TV licence?

Have not yet bought a TV as we did not bring ours with us. Have not bothered rushing to buy one after seeing all the rubbish which is churned out on Italian TV. However, i was told that although the license does not cost a lot ( do not have the price) , the fine is very high. Apparently when you buy a TV set the retailer will inform the authorities. Do not take all this as gospel, as in Italy we all know 10 different people give 10 different answers.

What is a TV license. If you are using a satellite receiver do you still require one? I have a TV in my summer home but never paid for a license. Do you require a license per TV or per physical location. Lets say I have 3 homes do I have to pay 3 times?

In 2005, the licence fee in Italy is €99.60 per household with a TV set.

After asking around I find that NO ONE ( all Italian) has a TV license in this area. Still if I do buy a TV and do not buy a license I shall be forever looking to see if there is a van with a thingy on top. Knowing my luck here in Italy, I would be the one to get a fine. For sure !!!

As when we bought a TV we got it from a supermarket and no-one asked for our names or address, I'm not sure what they would be able to tell the authorities:)

As I said do not take anything as Gospel, everyone tells you a different story, I think the only way to find out the truth is from your own experiences ( and of course The Forum), but whenever I ask my neighbours anything , what they do not know they make up.

Aha, even more confusion! I remember reading somewhere that you need a licence even if you don't have a TV. That's not been mentioned here, so has anyone else heard that. I haven't had a TV since 1988, and apart from the language learning aspect I don't see Berlusconi's output having greater appeal than that here in the UK.
