2425 Important Refurbishment Project

I'm back in Italy next week and will be commencing on the refurbishment on our new house.

Will be spending some time getting together some builders, plumbers and electricians etc. This leaves me with some cleaning, painting and general bits and pieces.

The major project I myself will be undertaking will be the refurbishment of the cellar. This is being converted from a wood cellar to a wine cellar. Knowing that Abruzzo is a wine producing region, my intention is to stock it full of local wine and drink it over the next year. Having tried some of the local stuff, it ranges from vinegar to 'Oh good lord! I can't believe i've just paid 10euros for one of the best red's i've ever tried!'. Just wanted some advice on where to buy in bulk.

difficult question to answer as we all have our own tastes ... but at least a posting where someone seems to have definitely sorted his priorities in very much the right way...

i can reccomend around here that if you take the road from Rosetto towards Teramo that there are two attractive and useful routes to take ...one the olive route and the other the wine route.... both have local producers selling their produce from their crops ... which in general is of very high quality and can differ very much in price.... both roads are marked by the brown tourist info signs off the main road
however i am sure there are other just as good areas around you... i have heard but do not know the names of that there are at least a couple of very good producers in the area of Penne...

John,

Thanks for letting me know they exist. As for taste, I find variety is a good thing. As I said, some are good, some are bad. That doesn't mean you can't have fun finding out which are which.

I may just ask a few of the locals. The local restauraunt sent someone out on a moped to get a bottle we ordered after we completed. (Thought good local wine was probably more appropriate than champagne). Cost us 20Euros and the guy served it with such ceremony in a massive glass decanter, insisting on letting it breath and pouring it himself. It was great, although the guy on the moped looked put out at having to go out and get another bottle. In saying that, have had some bad ones there as well. Still got four more to go on the menu, so after that I've run out.

Would be good if you could give me an exact start point as it seems a damned good idea for a day out.
