basically ... and i would asume this applies to all reasonably rural areas of italy ... you go to the local butchers....

by law here the provenance of all meat and eggs you buy has to be listed.... if you use local shops and not supermarkets you are almost bound to get high quality produce... maybe not governed by the rigourous and formal regulations of the eco groups in more northern areas... say the uk... but in general youwillfind that most local small shops sell local produce....

to me this is one of the joys of living in rural italy... you can go to a market...and find dirty earthy fruit and veg...or even a shop... a local butcher where the cow or sheep has been farmed and killed all within the local area and buy with the assurance not of a label or a guarantee that the food will be of the best quality... produced by people that dont waste money on antibiotics or chemicals ...because they are small producers and are still producing in a way that allow their environment in which they live to carry on as it is and was....and they are not going to waste their time or money on buying new fangled and expensive things that their parents and grandparents never used....

apart from that ... all our neighbours supply us with fresh eggs...well winter and summer no chicken lays eggs... fresh chicken and rabbit... all of them have little hutches tucked away under houses or out in their allotments of land...

... after the uk ... ok i know your not from there ...its refreshingly simple here to eat and buy food here that does not come from a factory producer....

... and good luck with it all... am sure you will get specific advice from those that live closer to you

Hi, I don`t know about San Vito particularly but you can certainly get organic meat etc. down here in Puglia - you just need to ask around when you get here. By the way, bring your warm clothes when you leave snowy Scandanavia, it`s pretty chilly in Puglia too at the moment!! Good luck with the house move - hope all goes well for you.

Thanks for the information. Although we have not heard from the 'locals' around San Vito, we are sure it must be about the same, i.e. fairly easy to find.
