2480 Hot-spots

I'm looking at the ease of working from Italy. I am in the fortunate position of being able to work from 'home' (ahem!). this situation has the proviso that I can do it, as long as I have a broadband connection.

I've given up on a number of connections so far:

Dial up - too slow & not broadband!

GPRS via my mobile - maybe, still not sure as I think I need a contract for this? Not 100% boradband, but we're nearlly there!

ADSL - not avialable

Satellite - only speeds up download so too slow for uploads
......so I take it that this leaves me with the option of hot-spots as these offer me flexibility as all I need to do is but a new 'scratch-card' (I'm not going to be in Italy 24x7 sometimes more than other) and the are not too expensive.

the trouble is, I'm not clear how simple hot-spots are to find. I've tried a number of website directories that list hotspots, but would like an easier approach.........does anyone know of any hotspots in the Lunigiana area?

I have found:

Dixon Expert, in La Spezia (V.le San Bartolomeo, 87)

Dixon s.r.l. in La Spezia (Piazzale Kennedy, 40)

Dixon s.r.l. in La Spezia (Via Vittorio Veneto, 75)

Dixon s.r.l. in La Spezia (Via del Prione, 299)

Dixon s.r.l. in Sarzana (Via Variante Cisa, 40)

Tiberi in Sarzana (Pizza S.Giorgio, 42)
.....does anyone know of any more in the Aulla, Bagnone, Pontremoli way?

I sent you a PM.

Can't be of any help at all, but am v. interested as I have the same interest. By hot spot do you mean a wireless point (like Starbucks for example)? How did you find the names you listed?

Wireless networks are run by the mobile companies aren't they? Why not contact the TIM centre in Aulla - I think they're called Mastorci or something like it. The phone centre people there seem to be quite clued up,.

Hotspots allow you to connect to the internet via a wireless PC using a pay-as-you-go type card...... you buy one giving you x hours access, scratch off the ID & passowrd & then connect whilst in the 'reach' of a hot-spot.

I'll try AullaNet & Mastorci when I'm there, but often hotels have them & am hoping that Demi or similar have one.............but am not holding my breath :(

Oh, if you search the TIM site, they list hotspots by region...... go via this link to TIM.

I reckon it's going to take me investing a bit of show leather tho.......unless you're over there first ;)
