2511 I need to top up my income

I imagine I am not alone in needing an income boost. I moved to Sicily last year and considered my income was sufficient. Turns out I was wrong and I am now looking for some extra. I have various investments but the returns are low around 4% per annum overall. I would be willing to change some of my holdings. So does any one have any bright ideas based on experience with something considerably better?

I suppose it depends on what sort of income you need. Are you thinking of doing some kind of work in order to bring in some extra to live on or are you thinking of other investments which would yield better returns? I can only think of all the usual things like renting out to holiday makers or to people who are coming to the area to look for property or starting a small business - I`ve started a small business looking after holiday property for people in Puglia, which has generated quite a bit of interest. I suppose there`s always teaching English but that doesn`t normally pay very well. Is there something you could sell in the UK, or could you do some sort of computer-type work whilst being based in Sicily? Hopefully someone will come up with something more constructive for you - good luck.:)

Thanks for that Martina. Ideally I want to find a better return on my investments. I was rather hoping that I was retired but who knows.

Hi Kingfisher
You would get a much better return with www.expatsincome.com
I've had an account with them for six months and I've been very pleased. They give free trials so you can test them out before dipping your toes in the water. Anyway best of luck with whatever you choose to do.

Do a bit of research on The Motley Fool (UK site) and more specifically the HYP forum (high yield portfolio) which will give you plenty of food for thought.

Welcome to the forum kingfisher,

lets see if we have partly mutual paths: I'm looking for 1-5 investors who would be interested in benefitting of the diversified portfolio trading system for Commodities (U.S. market) developed by me.

If you want more info about the project and me please send a pm.
Any capital allocation ideas are welcome.
Futures trading is a sensitive investment tool but gives excellent results when used carefully, I often compare it to guns and motorcycles – they can be dangerous but properly used are harmless.

Lots of finance-speak in this which I'm not sure I follow, but I think I spotted "power of attorney" and "minimum US$50,000". There also seems to be a promise of double-digit gains if you trust him with your money for a year and treble-digit (!) gains if you let him play with your money for two years.

I always thought that futures trading is an "investment" only in the sense that buying a lottery ticket or placing a bet on a horse is an "investment". Trading in commodity futures is gambling. How you lay your bets can be based on research or random choice, but it's still gambling. Nothing more, nothing less.

Hello everyone,

as this thread is now heading well away from any even vaguely Italy related topic I would suggest you continue it privately (e.g. through private messages). I am closing this thread.

Thanks,
