2483 Can anyone advise?

Hello!

Just joined the forum hoping to find some advice. Am flying to Pescara next Thursday. Hoping to spend a day looking at properties around Abruzzo and then 4 days skiing.

Haven't been to the area before & just don't know where to start! Any help on the below would be very gratefully received:

- Can anyone recommend any good estate agents? Any tips before starting a property hunt?

- I've heard of a ski run called the Passo Lanciano, where you can see the sea. Does anyone know where it is, and of any nice hotels nearby? Or can you recommend any good skiing areas in Abruzzo & hotels that you liked?

Thank you!

Hi Kate, welcome to the forum. What a pity you`re not coming to Puglia to buy - I`d have recommended the agents we bought through 3 or 4 years ago. They were excellent. I`ll be very interested if someone replies with some good skiing areas in Abruzzo!

Hi Kate,
I've just got back (last weekend) from a trip to Abruzzo. We stayed at the Mamma Rosa at Mailletta/Passo Lanciano for two nights and had one full days skiing.

It snowed heavily while we were there and only the bottom of the resort was open (Passo Lanciano) as it was a white out up top! The hotel shuttled us up and down the mountain (free) in their 4wd minibus.

Lovely powder and safe fun off piste through the beech woods. However it's a small resort and if you're an experienced skier you might find four days exhausts the potential. I'm a novice really and happy to poodle around so had a great time and would happily go back for more - but Chamonix etc it ain't.
A big plus for me was the lack of other skiers - I mean, there were others around but not the huge crowds I'm used to in France (during half term week!), when every time you turn you expect someone to pile into you!
If you're a serious skier Roccaraso is the premier resort in the region but I've not been so can't comment...

The Mamma Rosa is a family run hotel - friendly and helpful, but spoke little english. A big plus was they hire out skis and boots themselves in the hotel which I've not experienced before. So no early morning trek down the mountain to get kitted out!
The hotel is mainly geared up for Italian families. Little 'Apres ski' - we sat in the bar and read our books.('The Kite Runner' - brilliant book )
Food basic but ok. Rooms comfortable and warm but a little dated.

The Panorama hotel looked good from the outside but I didn't go in so can't really comment.

We only skiied for a day (spent the night before and the night after in the Mamma Rosa) then went to look at a property we're buying in Serramonacesca. We're buying through House Around Italy, so far I've no complaints (if anything they've been very helpful) but I know others on this forum have grumbles... time will tell as we're still relatively early in the process.
Hope this helps,
Marc W

kate, I have a place in Secinaro, bought through, two Danish agents. property prices are really low, and Angelo a local is going to take me skiing. twenty minutes away. any more advice just ask. sid.

Hi

Hope you enjoy your skiing trip, we have a place in Abruzzo and will be spending a few days on the slopes in Feb.

Be pleased to know how you got on in Passo Lanciano.

We bought our house through www.housesforsaleabruzzo.co.uk and felt that they went beyond the call of duty, but that's just our opinion. They are worth a call though and are much better than their website suggests.

Good Luck

Eileen and Richard.

My family who all ski booked Hotel Trieste in Roccaraso. If you want you can get there by train from Pescara and Rome it's about 2 hours from Pescara 3 from Rome.

They are having full board and the hotel proclaims world famous wines and local specialities!I will post their story when they return on 27 Feb.
