2522 Type of Permesso di Soggiorno?

I’m from the UK and will shortly be moving to Italy. I have a small pension and can prove my financial independence but I hope to teach English on a freelance basis (avoiding the poorly paying language schools). Next academic year I would ideally want to pick up a part-time lettrice/assistente post once I have made myself known (and useful!) to the local state teaching community.

My question is regarding the type of PdS to apply for. Initially I can’t get one for lavoro subordinato, and the permesso per lavoro autonomo according to one web site requires:
- Your Partita IVA which is your Italian Sales Tax ID
- Proof of registration with the Registro Esercenti Commercio which is the business register
-Any permits that are needed to do your type of business

Can anybody comment on the above requirements as they relate to freelance teaching, or is there a better way round the apparent bureacracy involved with this type of PdS?
Would it be better to register as unemployed and get a permesso per attesa occupazione?

Thanks in advance.
I've also posted this on the excellent ExpatsinItaly site, but that tends to be more US oriented, and they have other issues!

I'll post the answer here as well. Your best bet is to get the permesso per attesa lavoro. You can change it down the road if you need to.

Also, you may just want to apply for a carta di soggiorno for elective residency and then worry about the work situation IF it comes up.

Many thanks for that confirmation of the way to go. At the beginning I'll be wanting to keep things as simple as possible as I'll have plenty to do. There's no kitchen for starters - thank goodness for camping equipment!:-)
