You could consider the possibility of having a VOIP telephone: VOIP is Voice Over Internet Protocol. That means if you have an adslline, you would not need a telephone line anymore but at the same time you have also internet included. Fare on VOIP are normally much cheaper than normal telephone companies.
Hope it helps!
We are beginners on the Internet but when we go as usual to our house in
Italy for 5 months from May we are taking our computer and would like
suggestions as to the best ISP, be it dial up or monthly payment and/or
ability to reduce cost of calls to England. We have an ISDN line and of
course have to pay the standing charges all year.
Anyone any experience of QUIPO?
Simple language please!
Have been on infinito.it average two hours daily, no bumps, at 50+k, connected first try each time. On-line still free, however, have not seen first phone bill yet.

I use Tiscali Flat. It costs around 12.99 a month and I can use the internet for free (no call costs etc) between 9am and 6pm. No ADSL in our area and it was the cheapest I could find.

Do you know anyone in your village with a landline number? You could test the area with that number.

Been here a week, signed up with infinto.it, free isp, pay only telephone charge, no isdn or dsl available in my area, so far have not been bumped once, getting 50k+.
They have other programs for $$$, however, so far so good for free.
