Aliena, thank you for your reply.
Well, according to them, we weren't going to get the deposit for at least 2 months after the contract completion. Since we had to transfer apartments, we couldn't wait and apply the cash from the deposit to our new place. They had no objections using the deposit to pay the rent when we spoke with them in advance, and then they notified us 2 months after we moved out about the possibility of a denuncia being filed against us. Ugh! And it's no small deposit either. We're just going to have to get down to business with these people then. Well, we almost got through our first 2 years in Venice with no kinks. Alas.

Stupid question really but cant you tell them to keep your deposit, or take the difference from the deposit?
Horrid really, I've had the opposite where a unscrupulous landlord did not returned my deposit, after my poor flatmate returned early from her honeymoon, to clean up the house from top to bottom. Since then I have always just not paid my last months rent to avoid this situation, but I dont think its strictly speaching legal.
Hope you get it resolved, good luck!
We live in Venice, and are currently dealing with our previous rental agency telling us they will file a 'denuncia' against us for not paying out last month of rent. We left them our entire deposit of 1500,00 euros, which covers more than our last month of rent and our final utility expenses. And of course, they never said anything to us until after we had moved out of the apartment. Haven't returned any of our deposit yet either. Our expatriate friends who own businesses here in Venice say that the agency is trying to push us around and that we shouldn't worry about. Yet no one can say whether or not the agency can file a denuncia or what the denuncia does to us. Anyone have a similar experience, or can offer their suggestions?
