2636 My last two moderating actions..

I've made two moderating decisions today, which I thought I'd submit to review by the other moderators;

[indent]I deleted a thread whose main aim appeared to be to advertise a language school (at great length). My reason for this was because the reference to the langauage school was generated entirely by the operator of the business. I think that had a link to the school been given in response to a genuine query, along the lines of 'Where can I find language holidays in Tuscany' etc., it would have been more acceptable.

I removed the word 'crap' twice from a post by Adriatica. Whilst my general attitude to his post is that if you give someone like that enough rope, he'll hang himself, I thought the use of that particular word would be unacceptable to many of our readers. (By the way, I left his attack on me in!)[/indent]

I'm not flexing my muscles as a moderator (I hope), but as a new moderator, I thought some feedback would be useful. Perhaps, we can help each other by occasionally explaining our decisions in this way.

I'm gald you did. I was about to delete (I did run it past Ronald and Fiona and was waiting for their response) this myself and draft a pm to Carl to explain the rules, but then had to re-think just in case of any possible accusations.

I think that in future, perhaps it would be better to discuss any offending material among ourselves and collectively make a decision to edit or remove a post/thread, rather than be singled out and accused of abusing our position as moderators.

I think they were both good decisions Marc, I'm sorry if the forum's response to my moderation makes us feel that we have to tiptoe, hopefully the atmosphere will ease eventually.

Sorry, haven't been online since Friday - and will be offline again from tomorrow to Saturday, as I'll be in Rome.

So far I don't think any moderator (of the newly appointed crowd) has made any wrong decisions about posts and I agree with you, Marc, about blatant advertising to be removed.

Will go through the threads throughout today to find out what's been going on - received a PM from sdoj, so will see what that was about too.

I like the idea of discussing our options and thereby covering our back. I assume that anything discussed here (such as PMs received by individuals) will not be brought out into the open.
