Hello everyone. I thought I would come and say hello to you all and introduce myself.

I am Sue and I am anticipating moving to Italy by the end of this year. I came across this site in a quest for information about Italy and what I shall need to do to make my move successful.

I have found your forums most interesting to read and anticipate gaining lots of useful tips and information.

So hi everyone, I hope our association will be a long and succesful one. :)

Hi Sue and welcome to the forum. Which part of Italy are you coming to? Are you retiring out here or going to work here? Look forward to hearing more from you.

Well that is what I call a swift response. :)

I am anticipating buying in the area of Abruzzo and I am moving in the quest for a better life!

Sadly, at the moment my Itialian is nonexistant but I am hoping to acquire some before I move.

Go and buy the Michel Thomas CD's they aint cheap - £70 odd - but they are an excellent fast track way to get speaking - no learning or writing involved!!!!

Further I would like to add this.

My sister cant get to grips with this - but to me it seems simple.

I actually learnt this whilst learning Spanish, but it applies to ITalian and even English too - just differently.

when you see the letters ..

ca co cu - you pronounce them ka ko ku

when you see the letters

ce ci - you pronounce them che chi

and in Italian

when you see the letters

che chi - you pronounce them ke ki

See in spanish the letters ce ci become the thi

And in English

ce ci become se si

eg. record (hard sound)

whereas receipt (soft sound)

I hope this is not too confusing. Now admittedly English is both Latin based and Viking - so in English Celtic is often pronounced Keltic - but that just cos we like to confuse things.

Good luck!!!

Just want to add our welcome to the forum Sue. Do hope that you find it as useful as we have done over the last couple of years.

Thanks for your welcome.

I think I shall give those CDs a go if you think they are worth it. If it will help to acquire some of the language then it could be a sound investment. :)

Welcome Sue

THe CD's mentioned can often be found on ebay for half the price, bonafide ones not burnt copies.

Except when talking about the footba team. :D

Are the CDs just for Italian or do they do other languages as well? Good idea to buy them on ebay.
