If I'm around Modena and in for a long train journey I'll buy La Repubblica. It's a good 'sonnifero'.
Round these parts Il Resto del Carlino is quite popular and I used to read it during the occasional breakfast at the bar but I just found it really too much, I remeber last year in the springtime a sunday headline of something like..."Killer heat to arrive this summer" with an in dept article of terror regarding the supposed summer which was meant to be awesome and absoluetly life threatening!!! That put me off my cappuccino and had me eyeing the 'termometro' most part of April in dread of what was to come!
There is always the Gazzetta di Modena, which seems to be directly aimed at sports fans...and if I'm around Piacenza it has to be La Liberta, it's good for all the local gossip.
But on the whole reading an Italian newspaper is more of a chore than it is a joy.
I love the overblown irony and satire of the Ligurian local Il Seccolo - I even subscribe to the internet edition. Wondrous political characatures. Its the only way to find out things I find.
However, for serious weather forecasts there's nothing like Corriere Della Serra! If only I understood all the italian idioms and cultural references. Piano, Piano.
