I suppose I should add a few more some may not be design classics, but.....:

The Spacehopper; invented by Aquilino Cosani as a gymnastic device

Jacuzzi; invented by an Italian American, Roy Jacuzzi

The double winged lever corkscrew; created by the Italian designer, Dominick Rosati

Liposuction(?!?); devised by Dr Giorgio Fischer

Telephone (OK, technically radio communications); invented by Guglielmo Marconi
.....oh, and I have to agree with panteric's suggestion ;)

I admire Missoni designs. I've knitted several Missoni sweaters (from Vogue Knitting) over the years. The colors and designs are always creative and happy.

My favourites (oh but I had the figure still) are the Roberto Cavalli dresses
A super yacht from either Benetti or CRN - complete with helipad
Shoes from Prada
Gucci sunglasses (got those for my birthday last year)
A lamborghini in gunmetal grey - any model will do (but like the one at the viva italia show last year)
Pinko bag
La perla undies
and a photo of me on a lambretta dressed in the above (for our photo wall at home) unkindly nicknamed 'the wall of shame' due to the dodgy fashions and hairstyles
- we have to keep our visitors amused somehow!

My Dolce & Gabbana glasses (sunglasses to follow one day)... and Laurie's Versace ones...
Gelato
Smellies (D&G, Cerruti, Fendi...)
Murano crystal wine glasses
Pinocchio

cooking and the fork, otherwise the french would still be using their hands,
and their cooking would be even worse......

Agree totally - except for your noxious suggestion of Nutella!!
For anybody reading this thread who has been fortunate enough to avoid contact with Nutella, it is the Italian (though now owned by some multinational , I think!) equivalent of Chocolate Spread.
Uggh - I promise you will never find a pot of this poisonous tooth rot aboard a Riva, and if you eat it you'll never get into that Valentino creation!!

I fear that coming from the coutnry that gave the world Marmite & Camp Coffee (and Gazza), we're in no place to offer criticism!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
How about the thermometer? And the ice cream cone?
Also (just to join in with the bikers) you have to include Ducati (although preferably one ridden by an Englishman winning the WSBK Championships!):)

Oh - surely you do not couple Marmite with Nutella? (Well, nor would I - disgusting combination), but in terms of a delicious internationally appreciated gourmet experience (aka Marmite), compared with a ghastly sludge named Nutella - oh dear me!!
Patum Peperium (sounds sufficiently Patrician, I think!) or Gentleman's Relish, now there is an appropriate UK speciality to present with pride to any Italian!!
Sorry - bit off thread here - we are looking for Italian achievements!!
I've noticed that the BBC have started a Top 10 Great British Design vote. It's aim is quite simple & it got me thinking.....what's your favourite Italian design? If we can't come up with it, who can!
I'd go for:

Vespa motor-cycle (maybe even the Ape!)

Bialetti stove top pot

Ferrari Dino or maybe just the Fiat 500
....there must be more to lisfe than coffee & cars (how shallow am I?)!!
just looked up the top 3 british designs......how strange that they are all to
do with travelling!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Well.........Ferraris are awfully pretty, and if Schumi is behind the wheel they are also awfully - what can I say - awesome - but have you ever tried to get into one wearing an evening dress?? (Probably, as Giovanni, you wouldn't have - but bear with me!!)
I'll take a Mazzer any day!!
