Ciao, fellow Italy-lovers!

Having been led to the forum by various links when frantically searching for help or advice, I decided to join and try to put a little back for all the help I have gleaned over recent months.

We are currently about to buy a new apartment in Abruzzo, and all seems to be so easy compared to the UK. The biggest problem is getting the time to visit and sort things out, when a few things are hard to do from home. Does anyone know if it's possible to open an account with an Italian bank from the UK?? I have rung several of the names I can find but they do not seem to have the facility.

nO IT'S NOT A QUESTION OF NOT HAVING THE FACILITY THEY DON'T TRUST YOU which is different. You must go to the bank and produce satisfactory documentation proving your true identity if you only have a passport you are not allowed to have a normal bank accountant but only a non residents account which are quite expensive but obviously necessary. You can do most operations on these accountantsbut remember that a non residents account is in fact a " foreign account" in fact under italian law it is foreign money held by a foreign person on italian terriritory ie. not in italy that is also why it's expensive. If you ever come and live here you could ,of course, get a normal bank account.
