sebastiano is spot on.. virtually no one uses the trains for the abruzzo roma trips.... there are express busses everywhere... journey times short... the rail trips often involve small trains...sometimes with lots of changes ...more expensive ...less reliable.... the abruzzo regional transport....ARPA provides both local and express bus routes as well and also has a web site...
the only route out of abruzzo to take a train on is the north south ... coastal line...going down as far as puglia or north to ...virtually anywhere...
further south of puglia from abruzzo if you want to get anywhere quickly its easier and quicker to take the bus to rome and then get an aeroplane... for calabria or sicily..

Thanks both. I had hoped i could take the train to Chieti and take bus to Lanciano where i can be picked up. Are there no buses that do this? I can't seem to get ARPA going to Lanciano from rome on the website.

try roma pescara and then change to the lanciano bus which will be local... the alternative might be an express bus to somewhere say in puglia..bari/brindisi and they might drop you at the motorway stop...
failing all that the main bus station in pescara is just across the road from the rail station... the bus will do the roma pescara bit quicker and cheaper...then try trenitalia web site for trains pescara/lanciano
also sebastiano suggested the bus company that does roma/lanciano direct...have you tried that site

[QUOTE=tessa myers]I'm trying to arrange travel form Rome Ciampino to Lanciano in Abruzzo. So far my best plan is to take a train to Chieti and try to get a bus to Lanciano but it seems like a really long journey and as we will be flying from Belfast at 6.30 am I want the quickest route. Does anyone have any ideas? You have all been amazing on other areas so thought you wise people could help again! Any websites for buses etc welcome

the company DI FONZO AUTOLINEE run a coach service from Roma to Lanciano with 5 buses per day in each direction. There are 10 agencies authorized for ticket sales, the buses (comfortable/air con/toilets etc) run out of ROMA TIBURTINA station at 10.00 am arrives Lanciano 13.00,14.30 arrives 17.10pm, departures also at 17.30 and 21.00.One way per person costs Euro 17.00.
In Roma, go to STAZIONE TIBURTINA -Picarozzi agency c/o TIBUS-TEL 06-97749140. from Ciampino take the shuttle to Roma if itgoes to Tiburtina station it's solved if it only goes to ROMA TERMINI STATION just take the underground to STAZIONE tiburtina it's easy ( enjoy the experience foreigners have using london underground)You can't buy tickets on internet you have to do it on the spot.ok?
