2610 Garfagnana

Is there anyone on the forum who lives in the Garfagnana region of Tuscany - especially around Castelnuoveau?

Yes, me and my family, about 20 minutes down the Serchio valley from Castelnuovo in a small village looking down on Barga. Where is your place?

We have stayed sometimes in a small village 'Casatico' above Camporgiano - and really love the area. I feel that when we go later this year with our dogs and caravan that we have to see other areas, not just the ones we know, before we decide where to settle.

I am thinking about boarding dogs, going & feeding them at peoples houses etc maybe grooming & clipping but also whether we can work in with the tourist market. We are fit and in our early 50's. My husband does a lot of walking - what about tour guides for walking? Tours for the cities, Lucca, Pisa etc? Taking people for the day - your thoughts would be appreciated.

The area is just so magnificent and the local people are terrific. We have some friends & contacts in the area already but more would be great. Thank you for replying and any comments or thoughts would be great.

Hi Zillah, a man called Dario Castagno who works as aguide in the area has written a book about his experiences, called "Too much tuscan sun" he obviously loves the area very much, also the book is very funny, but just may give you an insight into the work.

Hi All,

Yes, I have a house in Trassilico, litterally just below the fortress at the top of the mountain, up in the hills from Gallicano, past Verni. The place is wonderful. There are several walks in the area, marked by Red and Whte lines. I know there is a good guide book and map shop in Bangi Di Lucca, that covers the whole Garfagnana region - I have bought several!

As well as walking, you can do mountina biking, fishing and if you are in to that sort of thing shooting.

Sommo, I am about 20 mins souuth of Castelnuovo, which village are you in?!

GeorgeS thank you for info on book - I will go and get it. We really love the area but also we do not know a lot of areas in Italy yet.

How do you all find it living there? I think I would love it. Are there many people with dogs???????!!!!

We are in Metra, about 30 minutes north of Castelnuovo. Only use our house for holidays at the moment (unfortunately) but locals treat us like old friends each time we arrive!!!!!!!
