2781 we all want to go back

Hi all. I have been a member here for a few months and thought it was time I introduced myself. I lived in Sicily for 12 years with my Italian husband. My children speak good Italian. We moved to Devon 7 years ago but we are all missing Italy so much, especially the children, that we are thinking of moving back again. Anywhere from the North to Toscana. Only thing that puts a dampener on it is work. My husband is 46 working in catering but is prepared to do anything in order to get back home.

Would love to hear your comments and advice.

Hi Sue
Welcome to the forum! I know exactly what you mean - we went back to the UK for 14 years and then 3 years ago we came back to Italy. (My hubby is italian too). Italy has quite a few problems and life isn't all rosey - but I still feel that we are much happier here on the whole and I have absolutely no desire to go back to the UK. Our children have settled well and love it. These days, with the internet and mobile phones you can always stay in touch with family and friends. The only piece of advice I would strongly give is this : try really hard to find work before moving. My hubby is the same age as yours and in the same field and its very very hard to find a "posto fisso". I think its to do with the age - most places seem intent on employing younger people (under 35) - someone told me its all to do with taxes/contributions etc - but not sure how true this is. I wish you lots of luck and hope you find your dream! Let us know how it goes ?
Ciao Karen

Welcome to the forum, hope you find it useful. Good luck with the job hunt and the planned return to Italy. Do look at Lazio, property is cheaper here than Tuscanyand your husband may find work easier if he is prepared to commute to Roma??

Hi David and Linda!

My husband and I have been a member of the forum for a few months but only recently have had the opportunity to settle down and have a good look at the threads, who's who, latest topics etc. We have a house in the Garfagnana Valley, N. Tuscany at the moment, but are also intersted in the Lazio region. As yet, it's one of the places we've only passed through "en-route" to somewwhere else but we would really like to find out a bit more about it, with a view to buying a property in the region. We noted with interest that you are located near Viterbo, would you mind if we picked your brains a little, about N.Lazio? Hope to hear from you!!:)

Thanks for the response. I know the job market is hard to get into. Certainly We would be packing our bags tomorrow if there was an opportunity. Most jobs require that you have La Residenza in Italy. So maybe its just a question of selling up and moving.
Will keep in touch
