2784 a banking story

...a small town/village ... a place called st giovanni di rotundo... thats basically the name... doesnt really matter much ... unless you happen to live there and have an account at the cooperative bank of that name... then i am sorry for you...

well all the residents have been taken to the cleaners...large deposits of money which until a year ago at the only bank there have just gone... thin air... records of deposits dissapeared... people with life savings no longer in the records.. records of peoples addresses changed so automated statements just went off to some other part of italy so that account holders wouldnt realise the money had gone....

the manager is no longer employed.. its under ha ha ...investigation by the head office... but meanwhile the other five staff remain.. shouldnt think they have much work... and unless you have some way of proving beyond a doubt you ever deposited money there it seems the bank just hasnt heard of you... as one account holder... that is maybe or maybe not account holder says check statements.. if they dont arrive ask why and never ever trust an italian bank...

this follows i think bnl taking excess money out of everyones account to cover accounting mistakes ...or something...which they have graciously decided to refund... well part of it... and listed as emergency requirement of the bank...its most probably in the contracts we all sign... and never read they can change conditions when they want.... the other thing here changes to your accounts are published in the official gazzetter ...you are not notified by mail... so who reads that then... notaio...

General chat about Italy

Remember reading something similar happening in a leafy southern England village a couple of years ago... the branch manager did a runner with tens of thousands of £££s! Not sure if he's ever been caught. Maybe he went to Italy??

happened recently in southern england,as i recall a shopkeeper was running a building society agency branch and a large sum of money went missing.initially the building society denied liability but relented ,probably because of the negative publicity.

thats padre po, teritory.... is nothing secred...

frank.. i live here... i talk to people...have coffee and newspaper...better to read than to eat... its sort of just common knowledge... everyone hates the banks here

Wasn't that the bloke who left an IOU for a million pounds in the safe so it wasn't stealing only borrowing!

Please don't let it be Banco di Napoli.. just this once.. don't let it be Banco di Napoli.. Frank will never forgive me!!

:) :)
Yes but you have stated that residents fo the town were taken in by a bank. Which bank and when. I know people talk. But if you post something like this then please state some facts. Did you ever stop and think that someone on this forum may have money in an institution in that area?
bewildered frank! its like you are talking about hurting peoples feelings?
when infact, if anybody does have money there, then now they know that
they should check it out...isn't that helpfull?

should be ok, he said cooperitive bank, and everyone knows that word cannot
be put in the same sentence as naples.......:D
Giovanni,

How fast we forget. remember when I posted about The Toxic Triangle in Puglia. You asked for facts. I gave them to you. Even if they were outdated.

John has posted something which is of interest to me. I have looked at the ANSA site as well as Googled and have found no reference. I also subscribe to a Puglia alert service and have heard nothing about this.

The only thing which has happened lately other than lousey weather is a little Mafia activity.

So before I call some people in the town and make a fool of myself it would be nice to have some facts. Other than that, I assume that John was getting bored and he decided to stir up the forum with this story.

It would be nice if it was the Bank of Napoli.
i conceed, valid piont..... but don't forget the triangle was in campania......
not pulgia.........:)

John,

Some of us really enjoy your posts. I enjoy watching the debates develop and the way you don't necessarily state an opinion in the first place.

I have learnt a lot about Italian politics, not necessarily fact, but opinions. For that I am grateful. I have a house in an area where I am learining the culture. Your posts help with that.

In addition, I have learnt a lot about how to deal with certain building aspects. Efflourescence being one of them. These have helped me with informed discussions during the refurbishment of my property.

Please never feel you have to explain why you post things. I for one enjoy them. Just keep them coming.

Andy

frank... sorry forgot all about this posting and then saw you logged on... heres the info.. i know you have italian .. this should clear up the question marks if you havent already...
