2800 Stress of moving

We're currently in the process of selling one house and buying another all whilst not living full time in Italy and it's driving me round the bend. I was thinking earlier today that if I didn't love the area we live in so much, and in particular the new house, a house I know I'm going to spend the rest of my life in, I'd just walk away from both deals.

When we bought our first place, it wasn't that common to own a house in Italy. Yet today everyone seems to be doing it. Perhaps it's just me, perhaps I'm just tired (yes, I am!) but it's not something you'd recommend for the faint hearted, is it?

You're not faint hearted Violetta.. so you'll be fine.. especially if you were mesmerised by the tossing of the "panforte" for an hour.. :D

I'm still trying to work out what a 'panforte' is.. did you mean pianoforte or perhaps a panettone by any chance?

:) :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement, Aliena. A friend who frequents these boards once said one should never post after having a frew drinks. I think I shouldn't post when over tired! I'd like to think I'm not usually quite so feeble sounding but yesterday was a real bad one. Anyway, feeling much better today and off in a few hours to sign compromesso on new place. Will only be in Tuscany for five days but already feeling better just at the thought.

I was referring to what I know as panforte. That round heavy biscuity thing speciality of Siena? Perhaps it's known as something else in other parts?

Violetta,

Once you enjoy your new place, all the hard work will seem worthwhile! :)

And as you're preparing to move there 'for the rest of your life', there'll be much to be enjoyed once it's done & dusted...

All the best!

As I said in another post its all part of the dream, the adventure and as you say
if I didn't love the area we live in so much
Its this that makes the bad times not quite so bad. Well, there has to be a reason why we put ourselves through all this.

Personally I have no regrets and sure not many do. :)

Hi Violette
You think you could throw it all in, well I know the feeling!
I have been renovating an old Barn for the last two years, as I got fed up with the Italian workmen, so I am doing everything myself and living in a caravan, not so good at this time of year. But then the sun comes up again the next morning and Hey! welcome to italy.
Ciao ciao
Brian

Just back from having signed for new place (yippee!) and hopefully (at last) with a buyer for old. Thanks again for all your words of support. We've never had any regrets about buying in Italy, quite the reverse, but in retrospect our first place was purchased so easily. This time around it hasn't been so straight forward, we're dealing with a different agent and lawyer, and I think too that knowing more now about what can and does go wrong, we've understandably been a bit nervous. But I now see light at the end of the tunnel. Or, more precisely, a beautiful new house with light airy rooms and a gorgeous view and, very importantly, minimal maintenance and friends within walking distance! Particularly love the last bit.
