General chat about Italy

No much chance of getting our cat out when it's this cold!!

How an earth will that be made to work? So many of the cats here in Italy are feral!!

But, D&L, they are Italian cats, once the law is explained to them they will obey it to the time it interferes with their lifestyle, then when they get a ticket, they will forget to pay it, then appeal any court decision against them while running their fifteen cash mousecatching jobs on the side...:) :) :D

Oh dear! That would be a real problem with ours...

Let the panic begin eh?!!

Have had a chat about what to do if it strikes here - 3 of the cats would be fine being housebound, but the other girl would hate it, and would make damn sure the rest of us suffered as well... Might be easier to leave her outside and just put food out.

Since the risk of cross infection is greatest if you are handling fecal matter (i.e. clearing out a litter tray), it may just make sense to boot all the cats outside and leave them to do things the natural way until the danger has passed (if it ever arrives).

Ooohh I can already hear them meowing, screaming .... and sulking ... either way, in or out! When they're in, they want out - and then back in again!! It's our little game...

Maybe I should banish all birds from our garden??

Will those little birds that are hunted still be eaten??? Couldn't eat a full one myself but have sat with our friend Oronzo in October and he ate 7 that he had hunted.......Yak

You'll be able to tell when 'Bird Flu Panic' sets in - the shotguns will be popping at every cat in sight!

I have actually been waiting to hear of people here wiping out birds in the parklands... Hasn't happened yet but am sure it will.

Just a thought. We'll be travelling to Italy from Spain with our cat pretty soon. She's chipped and has a valid passport as per existing regulations. Does anyone know if this cat/bird flu business has changed the criteria?

Last night heard of the first side effects of 'quarantining' cats in Germany - many people can't be bothered & drop them off at rescue centres!!!

Yeah, go on, shirk your responsibilities and dump them!! Very sad...

Amazing really, you would not think it would be so hard to keep a cat indoors - might mean investing in a litter tray but that would be about the only real adjustment.

I know, Sano!

Our 2 used to be indoors all the time in our previous home as it was in busy city area - and now they stay indoors all day while we work or when our cat sitter comes round when we're on hols!

No big deal at all... unless people don't like clearing up litter trays! I don't like it either but a pet means responsibility, so you just get on with it!

I read the article on Roman cats on the Italy News page ... at least they don't seem too worried about them catching any migrating birds! Fingers crossed!!!
