Tis not you.. tis bloomin' Italian web sites.. never do what they are supposed to do when they are supposed to do it. I reckon I should run for office.. Italy would be sorted in 10 minutes, mind you.. Naples might take an hour or so. :D
Try this.. its the same site but starting from the Campania page.. just look for Pompei.. click.. and away you go.

Train

The train is very convenient to Pompeii etc. It can be very nice to stay in Sorrento which has a wide range of accommodation for all budgets and the convenience of rail transport all the way to Naples. Buses will take you further along the coast too.

Try the Hotel Il Nido, just outside Sorrento.
Great food and Views. Free bus service into Sorrento. [For town and train service for Pompei and Vesuvius]
Stayed there a few years ago, after walking the Amalfi Coast. Thoroughly enjoyed it - Hope to go back sometime
really want to stay in Pompeii

My son really wants to stay actually in Pompei as he's into the Roman 'thing' and wants to spend 2-3 days at the sites before coming over to us...so doesn't really want to be too-ing and fro-ing from Sorrento....I know there was a brilliant hotel actually in Pompei on this Forum a while back but blowed if it will come up on a search.
Most of the ones coming up on google etc are really expensive !!!!!:(

Lyn
Try this one.. it's 150 yards from the entrance to Sito Archeologico di Pompei Scavi.. how close does he need to be? :D
It's only 2* and will be reasonably priced depending when he wants to stay and was in the link I gave earlier.

Yes, that is the one I had my eye on ...is exactly what he wants but comes up with no availability in May !!!!!! Ho Hum !!!!!!:(
Mind you I might actually give them a ring when he confirms his exact dates...you never know .....:)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hmm.. that's weird.. I get dates throughout May, June and July as available.. anyway.. you're right.. it's easier to give them a ring when you're ready.

I ahve been to Pompeii about a dozen times, you know friends and relatives always want to go there when they visit me in Naples. I really don't know what he can do there for 2-3 days.He will get bored. When he gets there , make sure he takes a guided tour, last about 3 hours and he will know all he wants to know. The best place to go is the Archeological museum in downtown Naples, that's where alll the artifacs are anyway.
I like Ercolano best, better preserved and prettier.

Guided tour

The guided tour we had was rubbish at Pompei. We hardly had a chance to look at anything as the guide was into the next building before we had a chance to look at the first. Also was amazed how vast the site is....our guide barely scratched the surface.Believe me plenty to keep son occupied there for a couple of days. I would certainly prefer to go round on my own next time with a decent book to hand .
Here you go..
