I recently read about courses in sandstone sculpture in Sant’Ippolito (Le Marche):
"What mainly characterizes Sant’Ippolito and its history is the sandstone, which can be easily found in this area, and its manufacture. This ancient tradition goes back probability to the 14th century, when as certain Aimonetto from Sant’ Ippolito worked in the Palace of the Papes in Avignon, and continued during the following centuries until the 18th century. The tradition of Sant’Ippolito became richer and richer thanks to the contribution of artisan from Lombardy, Venetia and Tuscany, who came here attracted by the wealth in glamorous centres of Le Marche, such as the Ducal Palace and San Francesco’s Church in Urbino, the Basilica in Loreto, he castle in Sassocorvaro and in other many noble palaces. This tradition was conferred the community a mark of artisan creativity. However in the latest years, thanks to he sensibility of the local tourist office and of the local state middle school, this tradition has been much discovered again and revalue through courses of sculpture both for adults and students."
I think it might be interesting to take a class in sandstone sculpture. Just an
idea, hope it helps.
