Not only Mway services - most bars can accomplish breakfast for a small city in no time flat!! Snag with Starbucks (allegedly - never been in one myself) is they have about a thousand versions of a brown drink they describe as coffee, whereas we have the basic espresso - and a few variations along the lines of milk (little or lot, hot or cold) or Sambuca! (I'll take the latter, thanks!)

Well yes, but then breakfast in Italy is an espresso and a piece of cardboard wrapped in plastic. Shouldn't take time to do that anywhere.:D

You have obviously never had breakfast in the right place yet then! What's wrong with a lovely warm fresh chocolate cornetto or brioche with your coffee?

surely not? still remember my first toasty back in 95,and still today look forward to having one when we travel to italy.... the only setback to this
is they now do something similar in name here in the uk,and just like the
coffee u get in starbucks, it gives the italian stuff a bad name.
infact i am amazed people in the uk actually like the pizzas on sale here?
because they too are nothing like as good as the stuff back in italy.
and this is were i complement the french, being as they know they cannot
cook without drowning stuff in sauce, they actually fold the pizzas
over, so as not to insult the real thing.........:) :) :)

Erm.. Gianni.. so do we.. fold the Pizza.. and call it Calzone. The French only copied us.

my youngest won't eat Pizza in England but devours the stuff in Itlay - but back to the Motorways - just south of Milan there is an interesting service station where as you draw up to let the hubbie/boys/dog take a pee you are offered a wide range of goods straight to your window - car stereos, mobile phones etc all very cheap- but unlike my local town where it all seems to be about knives now - even at 7 am. 4.30 pm etc I told the salesman to v-- fan----- and he went:)

don't soppose u remember the name? could do with a new sat nav...:)
One of the most amazing things about motorway cafs in Italy is how quickly they can dispense elevenses to all 52 coach passengers who are ahead of me in the queue.
With just 3 staff - one washer-upper one cashtill and customer interface and want Gaggia operative I reckon they can do the whole thing in under 5 minutes.
Hey but it is not just the staff - this kind of efficiency requires cooperation and planning on behalf of the customer - Italian customers know what they want and bark it out as an instruction no please, no thank-you or no err-ing, umm-ing or ah-ing.
Whereas, in my local Starbucks in London the average ordering time can be well over a minute and it is not ALL the fault of the staff. The customers stand in orderly line for 10 minutes or more, pondering I know not what but certainly not what they will order when their moment comes.
I think most Italians are addicted to caffeine and for this reason everything is done to get the fix to the customer as soon as possible - on entering my local bar in Italy I only have to mouth the word capuccio or machiato or espresso and one of the two brothers has turned on his heels and is on with the order.
I am not sure I could ever live in London again because I fear I am addicted too.
