I'm into cabinetwork and joinery as well, so am quite interested to follow the thread. Eventually, I'll be looking for a good timber yard in the Garfagnana.

Yes I too am interested in these posts regarding wood, I think alot of people who are restoring homes, also furnishing would all take an interest, because we are all going to need it at some stage.... apart from that wood is a great material and I also come from a family of cabinet makers :) Francesca

Have a look in your local Yellow Pages (preferably the lavoro version, rather than the casa version) for Legno, you should find some local merchants in there. Could try this on www.paginegialle.it, but I find that much less friendly than the paper version! Legno, not legna - legna is firewood!!

Dorica Legnami in Ancona are a large timber supplier. You could try them though very hard to find in Ancona. There was someone there who spoke a bit of english if you need that and certainly they were helpful. To call them use Pagine Gialle. Also I know a falegname inland from Ancona who may be able to recommend a yard if you want to pm me. In the end our oak came from a yard in Arcevia who got it from France! Apparently not much oak left in Le Marche
