2977 Tennis Courts

Has anyone been involved in the organisation and building of a tennis court? I would like to get a tarmac style court built in my garden. Does anyone have an idea about prices etc?

Welcome to the forum! Having had a tennis court in the Uk we were seriously considering a tennis court but for various reasons have decided against it for now. Certainly cheaper than UK but cannot give any real idea of costs. However would definitely advise against going for the tarmac option, it gets much too hot in the summer. even the tarmac roads get tacky! Our tarmac court in the UK used to suffer in very hot weather. Majority courts we have seen around here are claycourts. It probably depends a lot on where you are in Italy as well. Anyway good luck with your plans and would certainly be interested to know the final outcome.

from my research i think that the clay courts are expensive and difficult to maintain. Builders will suggest a concrete surface, but i have yet to see whether they actually mean tarmac. in the height of summer when the court gets soft (midday sun), i suspect it will be too hot to play anyway. When you say cheaper than the UK, how much does it cost in the UK?

It is at least sixteen years since we had one built in the UK so no idea of current prices, suspect it would horrify us though.

I am an expat living and working in Southern Iran in the Oil&Gas industry. My main line of business is Designing and Building Construction Personel camps for Expats in remote locations.Todate, I have built 12 Courts most of them with a concrete surface and painted, these have been in operation for almost 5 years now with a climate of 45 to 50 C and 95% humidity. Therefore, I think you will have no problem with this if you need more info. i.e. drawings, specification etc I am at your service, you'll need approx 105m3 of concrete + 110 Linear metre of fencing if thats a help, 10 to 12K euro should do it. I intend to move to Italy and will be in Bolsena from 19th April hopefully to purchase Land and construct a house.

great, thank you for your offer and your assistance. At least I know now if I start getting some qoutes in, what is to high etc. Yes I had thought it would be concrete and then painted green and red etc. I may take you up on your offer of assistance with specifications..... space around that is needed etc. Good luck with your move.

The quantities I gave you include the perimeter fencing and space around playing area, you need minimum footprint 18.2 metre by 36.5 metre = 665M2 this includes sufficient space around playing area which is 11.0mtr x 24mtr (give or take a few millimetre) just in case there are some experts out there, as I don't want to start a debate.
