2871 Living the dream

[B]Ciao to everyone
I'm Brian and living the dream, well not quite yet.
I have been renovating an old capanna just north of Bagni di Lucca for the last couple of years.
In the summer I work for a dutch holiday company and work on the house in the winter. Most of the work I am doing myself as you cant seem to rely on alot of the Itailian workmen.
The house is not quite habitable yet as I have been waiting just over a year for ENEL to connect electricity and the local water company for the water, so I have been living in a caravan for the last two winters, which is getting abit wearing!
So, if any fellow 'Nuovo Tuscans' fancy getting together for a drink and chew the cud, please get in touch.
I have a wealth of knowledge on where to get everything from Antique looking wardrobes to granite worktops.
Ciao tutti

Welcome to the forum. Do not envy you having spent two winters in a caravan. Winters can be fairly harsh in your region. Hope you will be able to move in soon. Sorry to hear you have been unlucky with unreliable builders. Our dealings with builders around where we live have all been great!

Hey Brian,

Know Bagni well.Looked at property in Casabasciana,Crasciana and other villages up the Lima Valley, before settling on Sommocolonia by Barga last year
We have a large terrace, recently restructured ,crying out for a table and chairs. We were thinking of granite slab with two granite pillars to support (to be left out all year round).Do you know anywhere local, reasonable(factory itself perhaps selling direct).
We try to get over every couple of months and three weeks in the summer.Looking for a beer and a chinwag let us know and perhaps we can arrange to meet.
Ciao

Richard

Welcome Brianm. I've sent you a PM ;)

Welcome Brian, you certainly picked two of the most errm, "interesting" winters to spend in a caravan...

I applaud you on your stamina and dedication. Hopefully it won't be much longer for you to actually move in and reap the benefits of living there. Don't give up. Are your ancestors from that area? I, myself, have always wanted to move there to Italy/Sicily. Would love to hear more about it. Ciao.
