3108 Bugattis and Bentleys: Mille Miglia

For those of you in Italy between 11th and 14th of May, you might like to take advantage of the opportunity to see most of the most beautiful cars in the world!! Basically the route is from Brescia to Ferrara on 11th May (though this is probably an overnighter, not enough info yet), then Ferrara to Rome on the 12th via Ravenna, San Marino, Urbino, Spoleto, and on the 13th it is the long haul from Rome back to Brescia via Viterbo, Radicofani, Pienza, Firenze, Futa pass, Bologna, Cremona. The map is on the website I mention below.

The Mille Miglia is an annual re-evocation of the famous historical road race: a bit tamer now, but when one of the Ferraris has a bit of clear road ahead...well, they can't resist, can they!

Lots of information (though not yet quite complete as far as "rest stops" go) is on www.millemiglia.it - do not neglect to look at the newspaper photos to get an idea of what to expect. The English version of the site works well, too.
Enjoy if you can - it is quite wonderful (even in the rain)!!

Oh dear, I clearly do not understand my audience!
Here I am, giving you the opportunity of working out your itinerary in order to see a couple of billion sterling's woth of the cream of internal combustion engines pass before you at a distance of 1m (metre) and I get 19 views.
Ryanair baggage allowance gets 400 plus.
Are you really sure you want to come to Italy for what it has got to offer??

No worries, some of us have interest in this sort of stuff.

In fact I am so captivated by it that I went out and bought the watch!

There's other classic motor racing in Italy - in fact Rallying in the form of the Classic San Remo rally. Follow the link:

I hope to see after we have built our house in the area.

Anybody out there who wants to drive in the 2007 Mille Miglia----give me a shout.

Great to have some input from you, Eddie, and from Dream Academy - but with you two I am clearly preaching to the converted (and probably teaching my gran to suck eggs!)

I rather feel that if I had entitled the thread "Cheap Bugattis" it would have attracted a lot more views!!

Absolutely... yes.

Tell me more.....please.

Eddie

Hi,
don't worry, sometimes it takes a while between log-ons! I've just seen your message and visited the Mille Miglia site. I'd love to see the vintage exotica flying through a pretty Italian town, but sadly am unlikely to be out there in May. Maybe next year...

PS I know what you mean though, re some of the threads. What do cheap dvd players at tescos in the UK have to do with Italy?

I obiously missed the original post but this is of great interest to me as I have been professionaly involved in motorsport for nearly 30 years and luckily happen to be in Le Marche on the dates in question so we will be there some where. Would love to meet up with any forum members who also intended to go.

Ciao Rod,
I live over here in Le Marche. If you want to drop me a line I'd be delighted to catch up with you.

Yep - I'm interested too. I may well be able to get over in May (a Rogito to sign). Maybe I'll get lucky with the dates, but to be honest my main interest is hill-climbing. Now I know Le Marche has the hills - does it have the hill-climbs? My little Caterham and I might make the effort - it's hardly vintage exotica but I love it.

Many thanks for that. Nice site.

Hello,

are you serious about participating in the 2007 MM?

I would be very interested in it.

Eddie

...interstingly enough, Brian Sewer was at the 2005 1000 Mille on tonight's Brian Sewell's Grand Tour.......he positively gushed over the cars.... then went on to talk about the Romans' love of little boys etc...

Hi Eddie yes totally serious. If you want to get in touch then would be delighted to help and give you more details.

Last Call

Don't forget, it is tomorrow, Friday May 12th, that the cars will be passing through Urbino, Assisi, Spoleto, and on Saturday they will be travelling North from Rome via Pienza, Siena and points north.
The route will be clearly signposted with red arrows on trees and roadsigns!

We just didn't want to encourage you, I know it does not take alot;) I thought one word and you would be off about cc's and engine torque and...and sorry I have Exhausted my mechanical knowledge. Now if you told us where to see Red-footed Falcons, you would get hundreds of replies:D

To be honest, I had to open the thread as I did not understand the title :-(

Wow..I went to the site and even I am impressed, I have no clue what most of them are, but there is a hell of a lot of cars taking part.
