I'm pleased that you are enjoying making your home in Le Marche - but tell us why didn't you like the winter? Unexpectedly cold? It wasn't a very kind winter this year, but with any luck you will have learnt what to put in place to make next winter more comfortable.

My best memory of Le Marche was waking up rather early in the morning, noticing it was sunny outside (about 6.30 am), and deciding to go and try to sleep some more on a sun lounger near the (unfinished) pool of the b+b where I was staying. Their cat came to join me, and I revelled in the purity of the mountain air - snow probably 3km away as the crow flies - a completely unpolluted atmosphere.

Best of all this was late March - hardly spring yet!! Enjoy.

We would be delighted to know your experiences of the move to Le Marche.

The winter was a bit harsh and long, but now the sun is shining, the Magic of Marche (;) OK Charles, slid a plug in) is working and everything bursting into bud again, I have even seen PEOPLE moving around without fifteen layers of overcoats on, the smiles never really went away, but they're certainly bigger now, lovely morning today...

Ha! You reminded me of my first trip to Palermo - it was December and still quite warm - I was wearing a jersey some days but usually just had the shirt on - the locals were wrapped up so well you could only see their eyes and hands poking out from under the clothes!

Had a similar experience in Rome this January - was warm enough so only had a jacket on - the locals were again wrapped up under so many layers of clothes they looked like bipedal sheep!

I know, Karen was greeted with applause when she wore a polo shirt one February, cries of brava...(it was about18°, although now I've acclimatised a bit I think I'd keep the fleece on ;))

We arrived here from San Francisco in December, 2002. We rented a house in Cupramontana while our place was being renovated...a great learning experience. Our "renovation" vocabulary became quite proficient. I would arrive at the house each day, and if the builders did not show, I was on the phone. Once when I was not at the site, the builders became concerned and started looking for me. Keeping things moving was important since we had a container stored in Napoli at $1,000 a month. Our Italian friends were taking bets on whether the container would actually arrive. We have many interesting tales, not the least of which was when we were summoned into Federal court to be interrogated about a small fence we had built. Our lawyer failed to tell us until after an unpleasant 2 hours that in Italy one is assumed guilty until proven innocent. During the proceedings I had to keep reminding myself I was there because of a small wire fence...not because I had committed murder. Actually, it was later clear that the reason for the entire episode was suspicion of a bribe having been paid by our builder to an engineer working for the province. It seems now that the court has moved on to bigger and better things, and it is behind us. Do you have a place in Italy? If so, where are you located?

We're in negotiations and hope to go into escrow soon. Then we come on our trip to look for a place. We're looking at southern Le Marche (although we have a couple of other places we're planning on looking at as well). Who knows? We may be neighbors someday ;)

Went to school in San Francisco, ACT, and lived in Santa Rosa in the early 1970's when it was mostly beautiful farmland.

We have a place near to you we are in san Vittore about 3km's outside the village, will be there w/e 28th april

older and wiser.... yes we are old! retired from hard working lives in UK and our family think us MAD. Away from family, friends, open all hours shops. we are not going bacvk to UK despite old age. health care excellent, weather (now) wonderful if only there were fewer holidays for the builder adn his friends so that we could move out of our apartment and get into the mud bathed house 2 km away from here. We love it here and have made loads of friends of all ages. all equally mad. janetta
