Hi there,

You can approach Italian banks directly for a mortgate - they usually offer around 80% of the purchase price of the property, less I gather for restorations. The larger banks do have English speaking agents who deal specifically with foreign enquiries so if you do not yet have Italian communication should still not be a problem.

I would suggest that you do a search on this site as the issue of mortgages and loans has been discussed at length on numerous threads and there ought to be some info there that you would find useful.

"The larger banks do have English speaking agents who deal specifically with foreign enquiries so if you do not yet have Italian communication should still not be a problem."

Yes and dead more and more mortgage request , because the future borrowers do not know the italian burocraci and procedures...:D

The bank I have dealt with has been extremely helpful in explaining every detail of the mortgage process. Can't complain at all.

Sano ,

if you have a mortgage directly from an italian bank by yourself , you are the
"eccezione che conferma la regola"

But, surely dealing directly with the Bank, as opposed to using, yet another series of middlemen who all want to make money from you makes sense. Providing of course that your lawyer is also included in the process

before SAY , it's better chek !!

have you read my web site ? i believe of NOT ((::

To be fair, mortgage brokers get paid by the bank (but correct me if I am wrong) and there are no added costs to the buyer just because they go through a broker.

However, it's not as difficult to go straight to the bank as Ugo suggests. Whether there is any benefit in doing so is another matter. A broker may be able to search around and get the best deal for that particular person, after all.

Thanks for the great info. I have just contacted Banca Woolwich and I'm waiting for their response :)
