3148 Discovery Channel Special on Italy

Hi There,
Can anyone help me? I am a researcher/associate producer for Discovery Channel Canada, and my job is to find 10 awesome stories for a special we are doing on Italy.

The documentary series (called Pushing the Envelope) that I'm working on right now takes the Discovery brand across the globe and into Italy to explore and highlight truly cutting edge innovations in science and technology. The 46-minute episode on Italy will take a fast paced, experiential approach to unearthing some of the stunning achievements underway, from technology and construction, to engineering and design.

Since I'm assure that Italians living in Italy would have a much better grasp of what interesting things are going on in the country, I was wondering if any of you might be so kind as to suggest potential science, engineering, and technology stories to me. Think inventions, cool designs, projects, cars, helicopters, animals, etc. Please email me at kfiliatrault@discovery.ca

Many Thanks and Ciao,
Karyn Filiatrault

Will a new series mean that you will stop showing American Hot Rod and American Chopper on a seemingly endless loop, night after night, after night ??
Good Luck with your project

If you're interested in designs (some of them contemporary) try this link

There's also a load of work going on with regards the genetics in Italy, but it's way beyond me! I also suspect that the Venice flood barrier may offer you some good techy stuff to get your teeth into!

Tobias Jones - the author of the "Dark Heart of Italy" presented an excellent Rai 3 series called "Cervelli d'Italia". Almost any one of those stories would be suitable - from the best nursery school in europe where teachers just get paid 1500 euro to up and coming enterpreneurs.

Also Riccardo Iacona, another Rai 3 journalist - just last Sunday had a document on the state of research in Italy. Some of the people he spoke too have amazing invetions to show (even if no money to develop them further!).
