3203 New here, and mainly lurking

Hello everyone!

Would like to take the chance and introduce myself to the community. My name is Kai, I am 36, citizen of Germany, and am currently living and working in the USA (Chicago, Illinois). At the present time, I am just a plain fan of many things italian. I have a strong preference for italian wines, I enjoy italian music a lot, and don't get me started on italian food: on the weekends I usually cook something up for the family.

I am here with my wife Karin, and two daughters Kaja and Karla. We have been to Italy several times. In Germany, we live close to Munich, and therefore Italy isn't very far. Most of the time we visit the Lago di Garda (I prefer the western side of the lake), we occasionally go skiing in Val Gardena (Wolkenstein), and have been to Tuscany (Mainly between Florence and Siena).

Are we likely to move to Italy? Probably not.
Would I like to live in Italy? Probably yes.
Would we consider buying a vacation home in Italy? Definitely maybe (any Oasis fans here?)

My current assignment here in the U.S. will either last 'til 07 or mid 09. Until that time, not very likely to spend considerable time in Italy. I will, however continue dreaming about it, listen to Ramazzotti and Paolo Conte while preparing these delicious meals.

Thank goodness there are four K's in your family! :D

When I lived in Illinois (Chicago (N. Damen and Howard) and also Springfield) there was a massive Italian community there and I made some very good friends. Your post from the windy city reminds me of the great times we had.. especially on Lakeshore Drive. (Don't ask!)

If you like Ramazzotti and Conte.. try Biagio Antonacci.. definitely if you are maybe preparing a special meal!

From an American living in Le Marche, welcome! We have many German friends here in the land of verdicchio and hope that you will include our wine in your culinary pleasures. Always enjoyed Chicago, and as a city it is constantly improving. Alles gute!!

You don't have to live in bella Italia to appreciate this website... just a bit mad about it is enough to keep coming back for more!

Do you speak any Italian at all? Feel free to share your holiday experiences with the rest of us...

I am very flattered with the warm welcome, thank you all so much!

So far, I did not come across a similar forum or website in German language. There is a wonderful magazine about Italian wine in German, the name is MERUM, and I highly recommend it.

and the person who is creating this wonderful magazine (Andreas März) lives in Tuscany. Anyway, for me the only good magazine about wine in German language.

Also thanks for the suggestions to expand my musical library, I will put Biagio Antoacci on my list. Not sure if I can get the music here, though. I will keep you posted.

Yes, it's printing presses that brought me here, the big one for magazines, newspapers, advertising, inserts, catalogs, .... Some people on the list here apparently have some background in printing or publishing. In Italy, especially the north, a large chunk of the printed media is being produced on my company's equipment.

Once again, thanks for the warm welcome. I might post occasionally, like before going on vacation etc.
BTW: for July or maybe August I plan on taking a tour to the Lake Garda region. We have a Saab convertible sitting and waiting in Germany, and we will take it out this summer.
