3206 Does Italy close for Easter?

Can anyone tell me if shops etc close for the easter weekend or if hours are limited?

Cheers

That's a good question. All I can say is Good Friday seems like a nornal day well, it better be as we are supposed to be having all our bedroom furniture delivered then!!

Easter Friday and Saturday should be normal days. On Easter Sunday, I'd expect shops to be closed (except in tourist areas like Venice), but restaurants to be open. Easter Monday ('Pasquetta') is a public holiday, and the day that Italians traditionally take to the hills with a picnic, to reconnect with nature, after the winter.

.....I'd suggest the only problems you will have are longer queues at the food shops & you'll never be able to book a table for a restaurant (or if you can, there's going to be a set meal)

On the whole, you'll be fine though!

.....oh, suppose the churches will be a bit busier then normal too(!)

Most shops in this area closed Sunday and Monday, but strangely there are some special markets on in one or two areas.

Oh well if that's the case looks like I'm going to have to sit on the beach instead going around furniture stores next weekend!!
