Na, just sit in it and wait for the door bell! Make sure your within hearing distance of course. If no one turns up, maybe it was a hint! ;) :D :D
Now no one will come in if I'm in there now! :o

Went in, waited patiently, had visitors and a nice chat then tiredness became the better of me and had to slope off unannounced. Trying to get the Puglia Posse one going, we can then chat about all things Puglian without boring everybody ;)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Would rather stay here and not alienate myself, like to talk about everything! Even flirt, if it's a bloke of course! ;) :D

Who's going to alienate themselves, I can be even more popular and wear my fingers out chatting in both, no rules about only being allowed in one chat room on the internet you know...;)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
No reason why we can't chat Puglian here, there or anywhere, just don't think we should feel we would bore people in here. New members interested in Puglia arrive all the time and can get the best of both worlds, don't you think? :)

Trulli, now don't you know you will ruffle John in Abruzzo's feathers by mentioning Puglia 3 times in one thread. ;) BTW, what has happened to John, not holidaying in Puglia by any chance

So any ideas as to where john is!
I have not seen a post from him in ages...
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Have no idea but clearly not around which I think is a shame, I may not have agreed with how he put things across but there was a lot of useful information once you ploughed your way through.
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Yup I'm glad others have noticed it too... John hasn't posted in a while and I've been missing his helpful posts & sporadic 'rants'. ;) Tried to PM him but his mailbox is full...
Shame if he withdrew!! :( Hope he reads this and realises he's being missed... and decides to come back!

The information is there if you know where to look, Adriatica's name is no longer the members list, last posted on 20.3.06 and last online 6.04.06.

Look under his name.... his rank is "Guest" - which suggests his posting privileges have been removed. Is he serving a ban?

I would sincerely hope not; it would be interesting to know in what way he has upset the mods. And I say this as someone who often couldn't muster up the patience to read through his unique style of communication!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
I choose to reply to this message, to keep the thread manageable! Adriatica (previously at least a Senator) explained in an earlier thread why he chose to make his profile "invisible", and it seems to me that he (at some point) made the conscious decision to appear as "guest" - (which I disagreed with, because the "shortcomings" (pace, webmaster) of the site meant that every post that he made in the past now appears to have been posted as "guest").
However - I expect he visits the forum as a genuine guest - it would surprise me greatly if he had been banned. I think I can confidently say he has not been banned: any "invisibility" on his part is entirely self chosen. Unfortunately this means now that he cannot post, until he elects to become visible once again. Which is as it should be - his interim persona as a "guest poster" was untenable.
I would like to see him back. Perhaps he will reconsider - but since I don't understand fully his reasons for deserting the forum, I cannot say - or predict - what circumsatnces could change his mind.

Adriatica has not been banned. He gave up because he didn't like the fighiting and the petty remarks going all over the threads in the forum. He has kindly agreed to leave his previous postings online as there are is some really useful information there.
A sad loss to the forum

I am gutted that John has chosen to take this road. I hope that he reconsiders as his posts were much looked forward to and proved informative and food for thought for the members of my household. The forum is a poorer place without his input:(

I agree, John come back. :)
We have learned so much from you about the central east coast of Italy (and beyond) Mr. Adriatica.
I (this is Dee) think of you enjoying the spring weather with your "fizzy water and Prosecco", looking after your finely kept home and family. ;)
If you read this, please reconsider!!!!
Warm regards,
Dee and John

Just a quick query Ronald. You say "Adriatica agreed to leave his postings available on the forum" - by this do you mean that a member who elects to "leave" the forum would (default scenario) have all their previous posts deleted??
That sounds very unreasonable to me - a public forum post becomes a published entity - it should not be possible to "disappear" such utterances at the will of the author. (Even if they are standing for public office...)
This forum is a bit like a newspaper or a broadcasting organisation: Andrew Gilligham didn't have the option to "disappear" his comments on WMD, did he -and if a member decides to "leave" the forum there seems to me to be no possibility of his having the right to say whether or not his previous comments remain in the public domain or not. They remain in the public domain, period.

I well remember someone once saying, that the forum was bigger than any one or two members, and it would continue never the less. Sound words.
I always liked his style, and input, which is visable even now!
How its it visable? it takes style to just leave,no grand posting....
ciao ... for now john...... hope we here from you soon......

I totally agree with you Giovanni.
His posts were really productive and he had style leaving in that way.
I really hope he'll come back with the same style:
just logging in again and posting

It seems that John wished to remove his identity from the site, to do this HIMSELF, he would have removed all of his posts automaticallywhen removing the identity, Ronald can probably answer this much more comprehensively, and, let me add that the moderators were as surprised and upset as anyone else at John's decision to leave, I know I will miss his input especially on the building and renovation side.

I believe the start of John's dissapointment with the forum happened in February the first I was aware of it was in a thread entitled: "Mods and Rockers, Tuttttt, tuttt." http://www.italymag.co.uk/forums/circolo-di-conversazione/2571-mods-rockers-tuttttt-tuttt.html#post20234
Perhaps John should be invited back as a moderator so he could do his bit to control "the fighiting and the petty remarks". After all there is a precedent for this and HE was a useful, interesting grumpy old git who was one of the top half dozen contributors at this forum.
Ronald, if I send you a PM will you pass it on to John by email please?

Stodge, I really don't think it's Adriatica's idea of fun to be a mod and as you have already pointed out we have one grumpy old git who has turned into a control freak and to have two grumpy old men with power would be....well. To be a mod I believe it is not such a good idea to have been disgruntled with the forum in the first place or have hidden agendas.
I wouldn't want Adriatica to change, unlike someone else who has. I have grown accustomed to Adriatica's style and really couldn't give a damn if he slates Puglia cos partly what he says is right and the other part I just laugh about it, life is far to short and everyone has there good points.

By the way stodge is your PM box still full, still haven't had any replies from my PM's, you clearly don't love me anymore! :o

I agree with the sentiments expressed so far; to me John's a normal bloke who likes to give his opinion & share his thoughts. I don't believe he was here to blow his own trumpet.
The forum will be less without him, but I'm sure John will be the first to point out that it will survive his 'passing' or he'll reconsider, re-join & ignore the egos.
I'd suggest that ego management is a job for the mods, not the minions..... mods, any comments?
I remember reading before that, as with governments we get the forum we deserve......so let's make it what we want & not get bullied by a few; John was key to this & his wisdom will be missed.
....but that now leaves it up to the rest of us to learn from this & manage the forum (no, stuff it........) to manage our forum!
Experience, interest and wisdom

I am sure it was last October when John first raised his dislike of the fighting and bickering on the forum...
on second thoughts, the thread linked by SDOJ does show A) Johns thoughts and B) the direction the forum had taken which caused John to have those thoughts.
I'm a day late and most dismayed to see you didn't wait for me ;-)
should we arrange times when we can all meet in the chat room?
