For not entirely rational reasons, I prefer to use BA. However, their prices [I]do[/I] make it rather difficult for a non-business flyer to be loyal and it's not just just EasyRyanJetAir who offer better deals.
Just booked a retrun flight from Edinburgh to Rome in early May -- KLM: £174, BA: £484.
Difficult choice.

I also find the BA website absolutely infuriating, since it constantly crashes and takes forever to come up with the flights. Maybe its because I am on a mac. I think BA are still pricey, and do have limited airports, they are about double the cost of the cheaper airlines.

That's a great price from KLM! I checked them out when looking at flights from Edinburgh direct to Rome back in February and the cheapest KLM one was over £400... :(
I guess you just have to check them all for a few weeks before going for the cheapest.

So far as I can see, you have to go to [url]http://www.britishairways.com/travel/ussoff/public/en_gb?prim=specoff[/url] and see what they're offering. Bologna currently £37 [I]including all taxes, etc[/I], for flights at the end of June. But somewhere (on their home page ?) I found a thing where you could sign up to get news of any special offers, and that might ask you to say what route(s) you're interested in.

They don't seem to want to know what route(s) you're interested in, but to make up for that they have the most amazing list of possible "titles" (usually just Mr, Mrs, etc) I've ever seen. Rear Admiral, anyone ?

We've just booked return flights to Pisa from Gatwick in August for £182 for 2 adults, compared with over £200 with Ryanair. Booked on line, was easy peasy, plus you could take two hold luggages for free, allocated seats, plus free meal!, on top of that airport car parking was £50 cheaper than Stansted.
I am not saying its cheaper all the time, but its worth comparing the two carriers, especially now that BA seem to be getting more competitive.

No one ever believes me but we've long maintained that BA is much better value than the cheapies. We're both Exec Club members and receive regular e mail mailshots advertising specials. But even if they haven't got a promotion running, if you book well in advance and specify when price checking that you want the cheapest option (usually highly restricted), their fares often compete with many of those offered Ryan Air & Easy Jet, as Harry confirms. I agree with everyone though about their dismal website.
I've never travelled on one of the budget airlines so in all honesty cannot say BA's service is better, but I'd imagine it must be. The emphasis they place on safety too is the best I've ever encountered. They're seldom late (I fly BA Rome/LHR monthly) and they fly to airports in the UK with excellent and all night public transport links. When visitors come to us they always complain about having to get up in the middle of the night (or not go to bed) before taking an expensive minicab out to Stanstead or Luton. And the same cab is waiting to take them home when they go back. False economy, surely?

as a ps to above, I must stress that I am not nor ever have been employed by BA (!) but here's something else in their favour. I mentioned safety before. Sitting on the tarmac at Pisa last month about to take off for Gatwick, purser is about to give safety demonstration. Across the aisle from me three Italians are nattering away. He says to them in good Italian, "please be quiet and watch the demonstration, it's very important for your safety". They were silenced immediately, sat up and watched. I was so impressed I felt like clapping.
Personally I'm very happy to pay an extra £50 for my ticket if it means the crew member sitting by the emergency exit is as competent as this.
