Dunno, but I'm over it already; nothing against AndyS & I can only say that I loved the photos he posted.

I can't stand any more flouncing (if that's what he's done) so I suggest we all take a long slug of acqua vitae (that's get over it medicine to the uninitiated!) & carry on with our small, little lives.

Answered my own question - here is AndyS decision.

"Basically run its course anyway, so will probably just pop in when i feel like it but wont be posting. I asked ronald lly I have a problem with the moderation of this forum. I felt that it was either time to say something publicly or sod off. So I've sodded off. Think my time here has run its course, so asked ronald to delete my profile. No banning, no arguments beyond the public spats, just me walking away from it."

Gracious exit

A gracious exit indeed; no flouncing, no ego. Hurrah!

I trust you all will now join me a long slug of acqua vitae (that's get over it medicine to the uninitiated!) & carry on with our small, little lives.

Andy is a real loss to the forum - Italian utility bills are about the highest in Europe and so renewable alternatives are more viable than elsewhere. Andy was the bloke who could explain it all. Please someone convince him to come back.

andy actually changed his mind really quickly. and apparently has been known to wonder the forum as widow twanky :-)

....oh no he doesn't!

Sorry, couldn't resist it :D

Ronald,

I advised you of this in a pm, explaining my reasons for leaving. I asked you to keep this private.

This is exactly the type of reason i have a problem with the moderation. You will notice i do not post. I also advised that I had made this profile to stay in touch with those people i had made friends with.

I also advised that without a profile i could not view the circolo. And I would use this on ly for this purpose. Your post seems to imply a more sinister intention and a change of heart here.

As such, thought it beneficial to all to know the way you came about the information and as such have posted a copy of the pm below. I find this a breech of trust and also an invasion of privacy. YOU HAVE ALSO DELIBERATELY MISREPRESENTED MY COMMENTS TO YOU.

Regards

Widow Twanky
(He's behind you...and will remain so - first and final post!)

Ronald,

Just to let you know, i was previously registered as Andy S. I set up this profile to allow me to communicate with some members who have become friends and use the chat with those people if i want to. It also allows me to see all the forum, but i will not be posting at all. (Possibly the odd - 'oh yes he did, oh no he didn't' post, but nowt more) The name is my little joke, don't take it personally. (Pantomimes and all that)

Whilst this is more a personal e-mail, i have highlighted parts in red which you are free to publish as you wish.

As I left after getting involved in a spat with a few of the mods, it is very easy to suggest that this is purely to do with that spat and has been done in a fit of temper.

This is quite simply not the case. Having read Adriaticas post, i thought it worthwhile to explain my views a little further. I have said before that the mods do a difficult job and that there is nothing you could do that would mean that you 'win'.

This forum is contains masses of information on all things italy and has been very useful to me during my house purchase and after. Now that this is over, I have other concerns to move on to. I felt, as Adriatica did, that FOR ME the forum was getting stale and it was very apparent, to me, from the final postings that i had very little constructive to say.

There has also been a shift in the moderation of the forum. Historically, the forum has got very out of hand and something needed to be done. For me, this changed the character somewhat and reduced my enjoyment of it. That doesn't actually make it wrong, it just makes it different. That different was not to my liking, so i chose to withdraw from it. This has been considered for a while and the recent stuff, just confirmed that it was the best thing to do.

I actually have very little interest in making a change to the forum because when it all boils down, it is essentially a superb information source. That's what underpins it and that's why it survives and will continue to do so.

For my part, i have decided that i will use that information source as and when needed, but will no longer be involved in the day to day side of things and will no longer be posting.

Thankyou for the time spent here, i have enjoyed it. It's just time to move on.

Regards

PS: I had been thinking about jumping off and doing some kind of forum regarding sustainable energy. The template you use for the site seems to be used on a number of others. Could you let me know which template you use? some sort of public domain stuff i assume? Also if it does come about, would you have any objections to letting me let people on your site know about it, as a lot of members seem to be interested? Mind you, after seeing what you guys have to put up with, I'm not too sure it's a good idea.

PPS: George, Iona thanks and in GeorgeS's words (I seem to recall) ".....as for the rest, it's all just 0's and 1's"

Gio cannot help but stir it, BUT STIR IT I WILL.

Why does anyone need to change there user name? i don't get it?
If you do not want to post, then dont. You can still get on the forum with
your original user name, so am confused why anybody would need to change
there user name, for any other reason than hiding the identity!

Which then beggers the question, why? why hide your identity?like i said i dont
get it?

As for the moderating of this board? again i am confused!
When you consider what some of us have got up to in the past! i know other
sites that were far heavier handed.

its gone a bit quiet here of late, am thinking about starting a thread on why
pulgia is best avoided..... lol......

I cannot see any reason why someone needs to start a new user name

I know how to do this; it's dead simple. Take a look at phpBB2 but if you host via a company called Hosting4U, you get this forum for free.

PM me for more details.

Well put Giovanni.. Thats what I did for a while. Just refrain from posting.
You don't need a new identity.

Oh dear, I didn't want to get re-involved with this thread, but I can't resist!!
I have been "doing forums" for a very long time - (I was so pleased when I managed to afford a new modem which performed at 14.4kbps, which might give you an idea of How Long??)
And I see absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying, contributing to, and arguing about forum life as a total anonymity. This point of view, is IMO, quite valid. I might be the Duchess of Cornwall in real life - who knows!
There is another section of forum users who make physical - rather than virtual - friends, and who swap addresses and enjoy get togethers after having met on the forum. That is fine too. There is plenty of room for people of all types - but if you come across a widow twanky or a Relaxed, they fit into the first category, and have the absolute right to be private - if they want to be.
Nobody's real life head has rolled - just a virtual identity - and I think that for the forum administrator to 'out' the new identity was rather unwise. But them who am I - a geek :)

Anybody else you would like to out Ronald ;) just so we all know who we are playing with.

ok - where in the message below does it say that you don't want me to let others know that andy s is widow twanky. I am sorry for the misunderstanding but really I did not think I was violating your privacy.

Feel free to change user name if that is the case and I can remove this account and keep shut about the new one.

I'm not fighting widowtwanky's - or andyS' battles here - but that seemed like a pretty clear instruction!!

Ronald - you have a lot of support (and you might be surprised from how many quarters!) - and though I can understand you feel a bit besieged at the moment - why don't you just let the bambini fight it out between themselves in the circolo? No libel writs are going to emanate from this section.... :)

Ronald/Relaxed,

I was actually withdrawing to save you the head ache of a major argument, which i felt was looming on the horizon.

I am still relucatant to get into that. I am upset, because my feeling is that despite specific words, the intent of what i was saying was there.

May i suggest that it is very much time to lock this thread now and maybe delete a few of the later posts. As i say, i have no wish to enter into a general slanging match here. I have little wish to post.

It cannot however be denied that the forum is a very useful resource and that is what i wish to use it for. I am dissapointed I cannot do that in privacy. I was trying to draw a line under some unfortunate discussions prior to removing the profile and that was it.

Relaxed, I am a big boy and can fight my own battles here, but i no longer wish to, however thanks for the support.

Regards

Andy (Definitely final post, as it needed to be said)

No - please do not encourage this thread to be locked, or deleted. There is nothing in here to give offence to administrators, or members - but it is developing into an open discussion about - if you like - human rights - and as such is quite important (IMHO)

Madam/Sir

We have barely made aquaintance and although applauding your obvious pundit; I must point out, with respect, the main body of the message the Webmaster refers to, does not contain a specific request to keep a name private.

Perhaps the Webmaster had nothing more than friendly intentions and therefore, surely we must not encourage anyone to fight. Open discussion is to be welcomed, if it is to kept within the realms of rationality.

Good evening.

As some members highly involved in this thread want to see the matter closed, I'll declare this thread done & dusted! This has happened after confirming it with them, so don't go for my throat just yet... ;)
