Isn't there another similarly themed book, by a man called Parkes? Published three or four years ago? Quite eye opening, but an easy read - the writer lives in Italy and has written a few "general life" books which are better than many of the "English speaking writer in Italy" offerings (IMO)
Not quite. That was a fan's view of one team over one season.
Give it a go. Agnew has lived there, and reported soccer from there, since 1983. Quite meaty.

Sounds good . I'v already read 'A Season with Verona' and 'The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro' which are both great reads . I'm going to buy 'A Season with Parma' in the next few days :)

Ardal O'Hanlon (of Father Ted fame) is doing a series on Irish TV at the moment (Thursdays 10.30 RTE2) called 'Leagues Apart'.
It's about football derbies around the world - the match, the history, the fans, the area, what it means & the relationships between the fans & the clubs. Last night it was all about Roma & Lazio! Great programme! Roma won 2-0.
He went into the Roma area - Testaccio? - met the 'real' fans and the Ultras leaders. One of the ex-leaders is now a lawyer and makes his money defending Roma supporters.
Lazio - regarded by Roma fans as rich outsiders and fascists - not real Romans. Paulo Di Canio interviewed. Their most well known supporter is a Nun - Sister Paola - who regularly appears as a football pundit on TV!
And we think we're football mad?
