If you'd offered this last year I would have jumped but I now have my own and he's a rampant teenager, no I can't cope with puppies.

what would she think of a cat - our Ginger is now speaking Italian and we want a dog but wonder how they - that is cat and dog get on? just down the road from you.

Our beagle loves cats, he is a bit rough with our though. i think he thinks its another puppy!

If they're brought together at a young age (especially the dog), they should be fine. They need a bit of guidance and the dog has to be kept in its place as they're often too boisterous for a cat. Once they accept each other, though, it's fine.
My mum's greyhound chases after other cats but accepted hers and still gets on with mine on visits too. The cats remain wary for a while until they built up trust.
Might be an ideal solution for both of you! :)
