Ha ha! I know EXACTLY what you mean Gianni!
Either that was filmed 500 years ago or it was a 'set up'! The prices were way out of touch - especially the renovation costs!
The first two houses in Montemarano should never have been considered as the 'househunters' specified they didn't want 'new'. The next two in Lioni were definitely 'ripe for renovation' and rightly so! I'm surprised they didn't jump at the chance to buy them both with renovation costs as low as that! Dream on eh? ;)
Both these places are about an hour south eastish of Naples and are areas I call 'dead villages' - even after all the money poured into rebuilding after the Terramoto in 82. I admit the whold area looks fabulous now, except for one thing - no one wants to live there. Yes, it's a shame.
There is poor infrastructure - no local employment - only the elders live there as caretakers, with the vast majority of houses closed up. All the younger generations have gone to seek employment elsewhere! Try visiting at any time other than August and see!
The final house in Marzano Appio.. was well worth considering.. even though I know the low price was not a reality, unless this really was filmed 500 years ago. It's a lively, pleasant, busy village, 30 minutes north of Naples. It's a ten minute drive from the A1 at Caianello, an hour and a half from Rome, so gives easy access to both Ciampino and Capodichino airports - and if you take the quick route.. less than an hour and a quarter to Amalfi/Agerola/Sorrento/Salerno etc.
Marzano has a great market twice a week and is 20 minutes from Roccamonfina, 40 minutes to Cassino, Scauri, Sperlonga and Gaeta in all different directions and if after all the highlife.. you feel like slumming it.. you are half an hour from Mondragone! Oooooer!
But hey, what do I know? I'm just a dumb blonde called Anastasia.. and after all.. the scenery WAS stunning!
:D :D
