Trulli,
I am disgusted with you!!!
Eurovision is one of the great european cultural extravaganses. You are a heathen, woman!! I have pm'd |Ronald and asked him to ban you permanently for your comments.
Andy
Text of PM is below:
Ronald,
I am writing to complain about Trulli's comments in the 'Eurovision' thread. i feel these were deeply hurtful, disrespectful and apart from anything else shows a complete lack of understanding or respect for European culture.
I am now asking as a result of her comments that you ban her PERMENANTLY!!!!:D :D :D
Regards
Andy

Oh my god, why do we always pick some twat who looks like timmy mallet and half the cast from Annie. It just leaves you expecting someone to smack him in the face and the rest to break into a rendition of 'it's a hard knock life'.

WOW - Ten points to Finland

Well, just watching Finlands rendition of 'hard rock hallelujah'.......Wonderful - klingons, orcs and the lead singer looking like Roy Wood.
Must say though, even though it's the best so far, it's not a patch on last years entry 'Granny bangs the drum' which was robbed.

War Breaks Out
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Sat, 05/20/2006 - 17:28In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Following some untraditionally non-partisan voting at the Eurovisions son contest, war has broken out all over Europe..........
Portugal failed to give Spain any points. As a result, the Spanish has closed the Portugese borders and sent planes to intercept all commercial flights into the country. Ryanair's Michael O'leary has now annouced that until the situation is resolved, all flights to Porto, will be flying to an alternative local airport in Perpignan.

Italy bowed out of the Eurovision Song Contest some years ago. They said it was too inane.

It may be too inane for Italians, but it sure kept Andy amused last night.. he was shooting from the hip!

... we were enthralled by the sheer variety of songs on offer!
Like Andy, we got the box of wine out, though only together with some Pringles as a replacement for that herbal stuff... ;)
Can't believe how popular the English language is in the former Russian republics - seems like they don't speak Russian anymore!!
Yup, Germany entered the field with an Aussie gal singing C&W !! No surprise she was in the lower quarter at the end... as was the British guy... we thought it was a bit pervy with those schoolgirls dancing around in their uniforms!!
But what I love most about it is the strong bond between the Balkan states... not that they chopped each others heads off not so long ago... now they're bestest friends again... awww bless!! World peace to all! :)
Still think there are too many countries in there now and the new voting system was a bit disappointing! Where was the tension?? No chance for a buildup...
Loved the Fins... quite funny! Can't believe though that some countries still insist on that kind of warble that was popular in the 60s-80s...
Think that'll do me for another year ;)
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Hang on there Steph, my Dave loves that 60's-80's warble and the lead singer was doing an impersonation of my Dave! Kidding I am not, he can do the tongue thing too! Or is Dave impersonating Roy Wood? Dave is the sexiest one though! ;)

LOL Trulli... that tongue thing scared the hell out of me... :D
But as you clearly weren't watching, it must've been Dave. Didn't expect him to look like an Orc but there ya go... cheers for clarifying!!
Yes, nearly choked on my wine, Andy, when they held up the CDs while the voting went on!! Think I'd get kicked out of my home though if I ever dared play it here... ;)
I quite liked the Lithuanian guys... the self-proclaimed winners! Shame that the audience didn't see the funny side. The Fins were clearly taking the pee too but they weren't booed (sp??)!
In reply to A newbie all over again! by Annec
Iona, not quite a orc!
Just before we met with his god children.
Don't panic, he now looks more like Aragorn from Lord of the Rings! ;)

Lordi on the Eurovision has just started a whole new craze in the younger generation - i.e. watching Eurovision. That's how they have kept it going for so many years. Every now and then give the youth of the day something they can really get their teeth into and hey presto - hooked for life. My son
(14) voted many times on the mobile so that Lordi would win!!! How sad is that. Meanwhile his mother and father and a couple of friends were cracking open a few bottles of the vino rosso. Long live Saturday nights and Eurovision.

Here is the main reason Italy gave for not taking part!
"Uno dei motivi principali dell'interruzione della partecipazione italiana e' una clausola del regolamento della manifestazione: il paese che vince l'Eurofestival deve organizzare la manifestazione dell'anno successivo accollandosi la maggior parte degli oneri economici. La RAI ha cosi deciso di evitare questo rischio ritirandosi a tempo indeterminato dalla gara."
I know they had "Volare".. but really.. who are Italy kidding? :D

OK, I suppose it's confesion time here. I have a number of friends who were round last night and some of you may have noticed we were a bit merry and very into Eurovision. They are from New Zealand and Australia and up until last year had never seen anything like it. (Yes, we had a eurovision party!!!)
We have now all had chance to evaluate last night and decided that whilst it was good, it was not as good as last year.
Mainlky due to my all time favourite entry from Moldova - Granny Bangs Drums. They even had a real life granny on stage banging her drum. In my book, that beats orcs any day. Link below.
